They're the same thing. Well, not in the real world. In the real world, joules are a
quantity (like miles, i.e. "how far to the supermarket") and watts are a
rate (like miles-per-hour, i.e. "how fast can your car go"). One watt is equal to a rate of one joule per second. But in the
vaping world, "joules" doesn't really mean "joules" at all, really it means "joules per second." If you've been paying attention, you know that we already
have a word for "joules per second," and that word is "watts." "Joules" is a marketing gimmick, to make uninformed consumers think it's doing something special, when in reality it works exactly the same way as everything else that still uses the proper term "watts." Setting a
mod for "50 joules," for example, is like saying "I'm in my car, driving down the highway at a speed of 50 miles," when we all know that you really mean you're driving at a speed of 50 MPH (miles
per hour). That
mod is set for 50 watts, and the manufacturers just chose to use the incorrect term "joules" to make you think it's doing something it's not.
