Ways to reduce throat hit?

Hello everyone,
I started vaping a few weeks ago on blu-cigs. I'm one of (what seems like) very few people who have never smoked analog and started my smoking/vaping on e-cigs. A few days ago I decided to get something better than blu as they provided nothing for me at all. So I got an ego C Twist and some light (1.6) store brand e-juice from the local vaping store. The problem is that I can barely vape on it because I get a massive throat hit that often sends me into a coughing fit.
So I tried mouth inhaling and that still gives me a huge throat hit as soon as I inhale the vapor in my mouth and for some reason burns on the way out as well that way. The only way I have found it to be bearable is if instead of putting my mouth around the mouthpiece like a vaacum, I open my mouth a slight bit while I inhale allowing oxygen in with the vapor... this provides very little throat hit but that means I can't hold the vapor in my mouth and enjoy it.
Are there any other ways to reduce throat hit that I'm not thinking of?

Also after taking about 3-4 hits in a 5 minute period I start to get real buzzed and any more gets me light headed... am I vaping too high a strength for a lightweight like myself?

Throat hit can be a product of a view things. Since you already said you are using 16 mg juice, we can rule that out. It can also be the PG/VG ratio of the juice. PG tends to give a stronger throat hit than high VG juice. The amount of power from your ecig, and resistance from your atomizer, carto, clearo, etc as well as air flow can all be a factor.

It could just be your sissy virgin lungs haven't been carnage'd by years of smoking.

Start your voltage out at 3.2..move up till you find a comfortable level. Using a longer drip tip, lowering your PG, trying non-citrus, cinnamon, menthol, etc...flavors, slightly introduce yourself to the vapor. You don't have to inhale vapor to get nicotine. If you want to do so, just take mouth hits, and lightly inhale until it's comfortable. I accidently 'ghost' my vapor a lot, because I like to open my mouth like I'm smoking something in a cigarello..BOOM

Lower your nicotine. If you were a smoker, you shouldn't be getting dizzy..shouldn't be getting dizzy with nicotine at all if you weren't a smoker. That's one of the moderate side-effects of nicotine poisoning. It would be good to keep that liquid around for those rough days..

Higher Nicotine & PG levels increase throat hit while VG reduces/lessens the throat hit. That's the basics, of course, voltage/wattage and what you use as a delivery system (cartomizer, clearomizer, etc) also plays a role as does your wick.

AT 1.6% Nicotine, that's 16mg/ml, which is slightly more than a "light" cigarette, so you may fair well with 1.2/12mg or below and less PG in the mix. With most B&M shops that own one or two shops, there's not always a selection of how your juice is mixed, but with online vendors you generally have a world of options and can choose to have more VG than PG, such as a 40/60, 30/70 or even a Max VG, which is close to 100% V (normally it hovers around 90-95% as most flavors, unless they specify, contain PG).

I appreciate all the responses. One of the first things I tried was dialing down the voltage, but anything less than 4.0 give such a thin vapor it's hardly satisfying. I'm kinda getting a thought that maybe grabbing a different e-juice would help a lot. Maybe a light (6mg-8mg) VG based juice would do the trick... I'll grab a small bottle on my way to work tomorrow.

Ah but I like a little nicotine high now and then... it's not like nicotine is a useless drug after all, it has it's purpose... sometimes you just need a little extra help to relax and feel comfortable.

I have nothing against having a little here and there. Just use the 0mg for normal use. Don't go how wild with nicotine, or you will find yourself using more and more, until you can't function on a human level without it. You ever seen a pack a day smoker after about 4 hours without a smoke? Do not get in their way...

16mg is way too high for a non-smoker. 6mg may be too high for you. I was a pack a day mini-cigar smoker and 16mg is my level and I still occasionally get light headed if I have a really good flavor going. I don't "taste" the nicotine but I can definitely feel the peppery tingles from it.

As also noted, the PG has a bite to it so reducing or eliminating PG with VG will help with the throat hit.
