Maybe a Java issue.
Google for JavaRa, use it to install the latest Java, then use it to remove the old Java versions and the Java installer.
Or, block Internet Exploder in your firewall and use Firefox, Opera or Chrome instead.
Flush all your browser history in all browsers: remove all cookies, cache, history.
Get an app called CCleaner and remove the deep cookies (aka Flash cookies). These are inserted into your computer not the browser, and a browser cannot remove them.
Using CCleaner, remove all the junk off your PC. Don't touch the registry yet. Run CCleaner a second time to make sure all the crud has gone.
Now clean up the registry:
First make a registry backup within CCleaner, save it, and
make sure you know what folder the backup went to. The best place to put it is direct in C:/ so that it's immediately visible from any process, or make a folder in C:/ called backups and put it in there. Long directory paths for a backup file are no good.
Now use CCleaner to clean up the registry.
Run it a second time, it will find more junk after the first load has gone.
If there was a ton of crud you may even need to run it a 3rd time.
Shut down the PC.
Remove the power cable from the back.
Hit the Start button on the front of the case a couple times (dumps any capacitative power keeping anything alive).
Reconnect the power cable, restart the PC.
Try now.
Laptops
For laptops, the debug process is different:
Shut down the laptop.
Remove the power cable from the laptop.
Remove all cables and plugs from the laptop, including LAN, external disks, everything.
Turn it over, undo the back panel clips for the battery, and remove the battery.
Turn it right way up, with the battery out and no power cable in.
Hit the Start button a couple times (dumps any capacitative power keeping anything alive).
Turn it over and re-insert the battery.
Turn it right way up and reconnect the power cable and all other cables / plugs.
Restart the laptop.
Try now.
The method above is the only way to fix some intractable problems on a laptop, because the power is always connected unless you remove the battery. It's why laptops are better than PCs if you live in an area with dodgy power, it has its own built-in UPS. Sometimes people who fix PCs don't know this and you can get one over on them by showing them this when they just can't fix a laptop bug
