Not sure if this topic fits the REO thread but i did get on my previous REO before.

I after rebuilding and setting up my coil, drip and vape. The taste is OK. What I expect from my adv. But after squonking and chain vaping for abit, I notice this distinct taste, not from my adv. something I tasted after using my old REO last time which led me to sellin it as I thought it was from the brass 510. But I'm currently using an E7 with ss and silver pin contacts, so that rules out brass being the funky taste I'm getting.

So my question is, is this because of the silicone tubing that feeds the juice that might give this off taste after chain vaping? It seems to stay unless I dismantle every part (510, strip down atomizer) and put through the ultrasonic cleaner. This was the main reason why I sold my REO. This off taste I get. Could it be the insulators heating up? Or the tubing.

Any my opinions appreciated. Cheers!

Sounds like cooked juice. Is you rda draining good after each squonk? Are you squonking while your coils are still hot? How much and what kind of wick are you using?

Does cooked juice have a weird off taste? There's no carbon deposits. I'm using a viper which doesn't drain all the way. Could be squonking while coil is still hot. I used cotton and rayon. Same results with the same weird taste.

If you have another bf atty that drains completely i suggest trying that to see if that may be the cause. if no carbon build up on your Coil that could be an indication that you are squonking while coils hot and carbon is washing off and ending up in your bottle.

Some juice tastes really rotten when cooked others do not. My unflavored doesn't really care[emoji1]

The thing is, I don't get that weird taste if I drip. Only when squonking. So I'm obsessed thinking it's the channel which the juice travels up. There must be some sort of contamination.

No one has issues with insulators or the tubing giving off taste?

Only time I've had a weird taste was from used mod that run some funky juice. But that would be all the time not just after chain vaping for a while, plus the process of dripping slows you down to let the coils cool. The tube, bottle, o ring in the cap are all easy to clean or replace.

My mini arrived with a horrible/smell taste that permeated the box even with the door on. It was some disgusting combination of RY4 / cinnamon / cat piss. It took a lot of trial and error to get the taste / smell out so here is what I did:

0. Completely disassemble the Reo (510, tubing, everything)
1. White vinegar soak for 1 hour.
2. Clean with hot water.
3. Hot water and dish soap bath.
4. Air dry in the sunshine.
5. Another hot water and dish soap bath.
6. Air dry in the sunshine.

After all this, the smell was gone but the taste was still there. I had to replace the tubing, bottle o-ring, insulator, and sand the 510 pin a bit to get the taste off the surface. I vape unflavored nic so anything leftover would stick out like a sore thumb. Once all this was done, no smell/taste was leftover. You probably don't need to get this extreme but I would take it completely apart, give everything a really good scrub down, replace the tube, and go from there.

When I chain vape I have to remember to drink something! It really helps to bring out the good flavor. I think many of us don't take a sip or two between vapes. When I don't I really notice the taste changing. With warmer weather coming it is really important to remember to keep a nice cold drink near!

In some of my atty's I use ReadyXwick and it will give me a strange flavor as well after using it for a while. If I squonk before every hit, it tastes great. If I squonk and take 2-3 hits, I get the odd taste. If I switch to KGD, all is well. I highly doubt that the plastic tube is the culprit unless you're using some heavy flavors that like to stick around.

Could be using to much wick and its choking the coil, so as the juice is being burned from the wick and its drying out a little cotton might be burning with it.
Try using less wicking material and see if that helps, also maybe provide a picture of the coil setup that's giving you this weird off taste.

Most people I know that drip use a ton of cotton in the well and drip a lot of juice in there so they can vape longer between drips. With bottom feeding it's pretty pointless to use a ton of cotton seeing how the well is gonna drain out anyway. Pictures will help us better to see if we can help identify your problem.

I think this wouldn't be the issue as my E7 was completely new. No smells whatsoever. My BF atties were new too (Cyclone & Viper). However they both had machining smells which I think I gotten rid of after going through the ultrasonic cleaner more than 5 times. I did use the cyclone after cleaning once and it had the smell. After which I ran it through the cleaner 3 more times. Could it be some machining residue had already been sucked back and contaminated the bottle?

Good point but the burnt taste of cotton/rayon I'm fairly familiar with. It doesn't have that taste. Actually it leans slightly towards machining residue taste/metallic chemically taste.

I use rayon for all my wicks, I've never had an off taste unless I get funky junk juice, I use to get dry hits but that was cause I used way to much wick stuffed inside the coil.

Maybe it's just your taste buds, I'd try Karen's recommendation of drinking something in between vapes and see if that helps

In extreme cases you still have machine oil hiding underneath o-rings. More than one person has not been able to fully get rid of a machine oil taste/odor until they removed the o-rings from the atty first and cleaned it one more time.

The one thing you seem to be going out of you way to mention is: what is this mystery liquid of which you speak? Is it one flavor or is it happening with multiple flavors?

A picture of your coil build would help too.

At work now. Will post pictures when back. My adv is 5pawns grandmaster. Have been vaping this over a year now. So Im fairly sensitive to any off taste. Haven't tried other liquids yet as I don't want my squonker to have other e-juice leaving its smell behind. Lol. I guess I have an OCD there.

I have removed all O-rings and run through the ultrasonic cleaner, even the o-rings. Center pin removed etc. Stripped down. Ran the 510 catch cup through the cleaner as well. Even the plastic bottle. Though not sure how effective is that as it floats abit.
