So I just started using an actual ecig(as opposed to those disposable things that I now realize are disgusting). Overall I like the experience, but I have one small issue. If I directly inhale the smoke it is really harsh and makes me cough and like I can't breathe. However if I keep it in my mouth for a couple seconds before inhaling it then I don't even feel hardly any harshness. I'm only using 12mg of nic and idk if I'm doing something wrong or if its the juice or the e cig or what. I think the ecig is basically one of those ce4 starter kit type things(bought it relabeled at a local shop)

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi

When you are starting it can be several things:

The "insult to injury" dilemma. Your lungs have been banged up from years of smoking. Introduce something new - and it doesn't go over so well. You may need to avoid lung inhaling for a while.

High PG liquids can be harsh. What is your liquid like? If it's thin and moves like water in the bottle or clearo chances are it's a high PG liquid. (High VG liquid is thicker and if you tilt the bottle of clearo it almost sticks to the sides as it's moving. More like the consistency of a cough syrup than water.) You may need to try a liquid with less PG in it to reduce the harshness.

You don't need to lung inhale to get the nic out of vaping - it's actually absorbed in the mouth anyway. See here for a write up on inhaling. => http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/337017-inhalation-technique-e-cigarette.html

When I started, lung inhaling would sent me into spastic coughing fits. I was a deep lung inhaler when I smoked and that didn't work for vaping. It took a long time to un-learn everything I used to do when I smoked a cigarette and change to a working vape style. I can lung inhale now, but I rarely do it and really don't miss that part of smoking.

Your doing it exactly right. Mouth first, then lungs, otherwise you will cough. If you took a drag straith to your lungs with a cigg, you would also cough.

Most of the folks that go directly intom their lungs use little or no nic.

Your just fine !

Hi cmat and welcome to ECF. Glad you found us and joined. Vaping is not exactly like smoking (but so very much better). Reading the inhalation technique post that rick shared was great for me. I do long, SLOW draws into my mouth, then pause, then inhale. As was said, not everyone inhales, but inhaling works for me. I get the great flavor from the long, slow draw and the throat hit while inhaling. For me it is the best of all worlds. It's become habit and has made vaping tasty and satisfying to me.

Hope you continue to share your experience and feel free to continue to ask questions. I've found the folks here to be very helpful and supportive. Keep the vape and namaste.

^This. I lung inhale now, but I also vape 2 mg or zero mg nic. I could never do that with 18 or 12. So switch to Mouth-To-Lung style for now.

Also, I had some weird experiences with e-juice when I first began - just bought whatever they had at a local smoke shop (not even a vape shop - just a smoke shop with a vape counter and two brands of juice). The juice was not good and I had an adverse reaction. So definitely try some other juices - Mount Baker sells very reasonably priced juice and you can customize the ratio of PG to VG. It's a good place to start when you are experimenting to see what works for you (without spending too much). You can move up to the more expensive brands once you find your sweet spot.

These days I prefer 100% VG or close to it - it produces a lot more vapor, so I've learned to prefer it. But also moving in that direction may help with what you're experiencing, as PG allergies are fairly common

Another thing to do is drop nic level. When I first started vaping, a lot of people recommended 18 and 12 mg nic for me based on my previous cigarette type and frequency of smoking. But it really was too strong for me. I found a comfort zone with 6 mg for a long time. Something to keep in mind. You'll know if the nic is too strong if you feel dizzy, headachy or have trouble sleeping.

Hang in there and keep on vapin'!

another thing you might try in addition to the adjusting your technique is to leave the top and drip cap off of your bottle of juice for a day somewhere where it won't be knocked over or otherwise fouled.. I'm not positive but I believe that some flavors are extracted from their source using alcohol and in some instances some of the alcohol is still present when added to e-juice as a flavoring agent. If you leave the cap off it will give the more easily evaporated alcohol a chance to escape while leaving the flavor.

But there are folks here more knowledgeable about the subject than me who can steer us right on that I'm sure.

wow this forum is awesome, thanks for all the replies. Im actually not a previous smoker at all(an occasional roll up is all and I'm not even vaping to quit that I just like the flavor). So it sounds like the technique I started is sort of correct and that long guide is super useful. I also did order 2 more flavors, one with a vg/h20 mix and one that just said "max vg"(both from mtbaker) so I'm going to try that as well since I do sort of like having the option to inhale after holding it if I can.

I also already ordered it with 12 and 18mg of nic. I don't vape very much(here and there other than before bed for a little bit), but I think in the future ill order a really low nic juice for when I want to just play around with vapor and stuff a bit more lol. Thanks everyone!

One other question I have is are there any decent setups out there that look more similar to and act like blu disposables?(automatic function) If so where would I find them?

I just want to say that I had the same problem until today. I had bought a cheap starter kit but kept having problems with the clearomizers. Today I bought a new one with wick and filling area at the bottom. It is called a EV-Vapor. It's made all the difference. No more burnt taste. No more sore throats. Just a smooth vaping experience. It's like night and day. I'm a newbie, only vaping for 3 weeks and may have some of the words wrong. All I know is that I really like my new clearomizers!

I tried looking up "EV-Vapor" and couldn't find anything. Do you happen to have a link to one or anything? Also how much was it? Thanks
