I was talking to an old friend of mine on messenger. We went to high school together and used to sneak cigarettes during lunch break. Fun times. I tried talking to her about vaping, but she wasn't willing to listen. According to her, she had already tried it and thought it was nasty. After continuing the conversation, she admitted she had only tried a cheapo purchased from a gas station:facepalm: I really wish there was a way to convince her to at least 'try' some of the others, but I'm afraid the damage has already been done. That, and she was complaining about how the cheapo one she bought was $30:?: There's no way in hell I could convince her to drop $60+ on another one, when she's already convinced they aren't for her:cry:

I have to admit that if I hadn't found this forum, I probably would've thought the same thing. I had already plunked down money on NJoy's and Green Smoke. Neither one was very good and I was about ready to give up on the whole thing. vaping didn't work and it was BS. Mind you, I wasn't planning on quitting. I just wanted something I could use indoors. I spent more time charging batteries and smoking than I did vaping. This forum gave me the advice I needed and I ended up loving vaping so much that I accidentally quit smoking.

She's been jaded by crappy e-cigs and I have to wonder how many others out there are just like her. Guide her to this forum and just let her figure out for herself that e-cigs are a viable alternative.

I think you have to be ready to quit, and maybe she's not. I had a disappointing experience 2-1/2 years ago with one of the cigarette look-alike models. So I put it down for a long time. I actually loaned it to a friend. But I started coughing so much from the analogs that I decided I had to try quitting again, and try harder this time to make it work. My friend had misplaced the one I loaned her, so I came here looking for advice on what kind to buy as a replacement. But my motivation was that I really wanted to quit.

Someone else here posted that a friend of theirs didn't quit -- just added vaping to their normal smoking habit.

I think the others here are right, a person has to want to quit. I'm on my 3'rd cigarette look-alike (an nJoy Pro), but really only because components of the others broke and the nJoys are available locally. I'm looking forward to getting a "good" system at some point. But I really don't even mind that I got ripped off on the previous ones, because I really wanted to quit analogs.

Yep, I agree with everyone else...she simply doesn't want to quit smoking. Even the cheapies aren't too bad if you're wanting to quit. Spending $30 isn't much considering the cost of a pack of cigs.

2 years ago my daughter tried to get me to switch...she had seen an ad on TV. Dumby me said it was too expensive plus I didn't like the idea of an automatic withdraw every month from my checking account. All I was doing was making excuses. I even had myself convinced I loved to smoke. I actually hated it. We live and learn but some people are just too stubborn to learn so don't waste your time in trying to convince her. If she saw you vaping, it might spark more interest plus she would see that not all ecigs are created equal and you could easily prove that to her. I wish you luck with her.

I didn't want to quit smoking. I loved smoking but my boyfriend didn't like me smoking and held his breath every time he kissed me. I suppose it was like kissing a dirty ash tray. So I tried an apple flavored e cig and I love it. That was the day I quit smoking. My boyfriend couldn't be happier. Me too. I'm having so much fun with these gadgets and experimenting with different juices. I agree with Dario. If she tried a really good one she might have second thoughts and at least think about it.

I've been there talking to people about vaping. As a newbie I was so excited as I wanted to share my experience with everyone I knew. Matter of fact when I found this forum(got tired of smoking the nasty analogs and tired of my Drs. nagging at me). Tried everything to quit, my boyfriend didn't think it would help. Little did he know these bugger did and even help him quit. LOL he loves the idea that they help cut the cost in 1/2 and loves my DIY juices. My daughter tried them, she didn't like them and went back to analogs(as much as I wish she didn't)but its her choice.

Nowadays, I just wait, let them ask me, I refer them to this site plus contact me any time if they need more information and suggestions. As much as we (new/+ veteran) the vapors want to help, taking these steps is still up to them. Once they do, hopefully anybody here can guide them, to find out what works for them.

I agree, I think it's a matter of attraction rather than promotion.

Let everyone see you enjoying yourself vaping, and let the ones who are interested approach out of attraction rather than promoting the benefits and pushing it, that I think, makes a lot of people defensive.

I just let everyone who sees me vaping see how much I enjoy it, and I don't take it any further unless THEY approach ME and ask, ...then I got a real nibble on the line. :)

I think you do need to be mentally ready to quit .. and then give the e-cig a fighting chance to work .. same thing with any nic replacement device .. patch, gum, etc ..

I bought an NJOY 3 years ago and paid $120 for it .. used it a couple days and it sat in the drawer .. 3 months ago, I got a new NJOY and have not picked up a cig yet .. (been tempted, I'll admit) .. and I'm the guy who would tell his Doctor I'd roll the patch and smoke it ..

Now, thanks to this Forum, I have much better equipment and a better knowledge of what's available .. I don't forsee going back to my old ways .. however, if we get regulated or banned, I may have to go underground ..

I had a couple of bad experiences with some gas station e cigs which I cast off as worthless. As it turns out at least the batteries aren't...but, anyway.

I didn't get back on e-cigs until I was

a) ready for real to give up cigarettes on my own terms and timetable

and...really..

b) because my arrogant nature resented the fact that others said "those things (e-cigs) don't work." Oh really? Watch this.

After reading Allan Carr's book "Easy Way" I would definitely agree with him where he says that there is never a "good" time to quit. Tomorrow will almost never be a better day then today but it is much easier to choose tomorrow.

Yah, a person isn't ready 'till they're ready. Almost six months ago, my fishing buddy mentioned that he might give ecigs a go. As I desperately wanted to quit smoking, I immediately googled "ecigs" when i got home and luckily ended up at ECF. I am over five months analog free. And my fishing buddy? He still hasn't ordered an ecig yet as he says that when he does something, he goes at it whole hog so he wants to wait until the right time. Translation - "I don't really want to quit smoking". As I said, a person isn't ready until they're ready and there is nothing you can do about that.

As mentioned its hard to tell a smoker what to do, it is much easier to talk about how good you feel, how much easier it is to breathe and how food tastes better, while mentioning you have a high quality PV and juice not the crap from a convenience store or kiosk. You may have to purchase a good kit for them to get them started too. You have to want to quit to find the right juice for you and an appropriate PV and cartos drip setup or tank or what setup works for you. Being gifted a good setup would make a skeptic much more likely to be successful.
