were people rebuilding ego-style clearomiers or cartomizers etc about 2 years ago?

Trying to figure out my thread about why my 2 year old battery works fine with coils besides A-1 kanthal. Again, the battery works fine with coils unless built form A-1 kanthal, and I built all the coils correctly with no shorts etc.

Al I can think of is that since A-1 kanthal (which isn't working on the battery) is the more expensive one and has a different composition compared to D and maybe nichrome which Kanger and Vivi etc likely make their factory coils with to save money. I guess the eGO was built differently about 2 years ago (maybe 2.5 years ago this ego was made) and just doesn't work with A-1 wire. Aparently no-one else has heard of this problem because most people who rebuilt with eGOs weren't doing so about 2 years ago because the EGo clearomizers weren't at all rebuildable, and if they were, they'd have to be using A-1 to have the same problem, which not everyone uses. Aparently no-one still has 2-year old eGos beacuse unlike this one, they were used enough to reach end of lifespan and be recycled. The battery could also be a knockoff adding to how 'egos might have been built differently 2 years ago', but I doubt it since it was bought in-store from a large scale successful vendor.

We didn't have clearos back then.

We had cartos, but I don't think any of us bothered to rebuild them. If anyone did, I'm reasonably certain there was no great level of success.

We modded our atty cartridges with fun things like blue foam and pyramid tea bags.

Outside of that, I can't think of anything along the same lines that you are.

It is the amp,s

I'm curious... why would a coil made of Kanthal pull more amps than any other coil of the same resistance? Something isn't adding up here. It doesn't matter what the material is, if you have the same load, you have the same load. A 2ohm coil, whatever its made of, will put the same load on the circuit as any other coil of any other material, as long as it too is 2ohm.

I'm kind of with the OP here, it's very confusing why Kanthal would be giving him problems but other wire wouldn't. If there was something wacky going on with the wire and it's conductivity or something changed, that would be reflected in the resistance of the coil. If the resistance is the same, and the only difference is Kanthal vs. Nichrome there is evidently some sort of supernatural phenomenon going on, as it seems to violate the laws of physics.

The only thing I can think of is that the resistance is NOT the same. Does the resistance of Kanthal change to a larger degree while hot than Nichrome? What I means is, temperature does effect the conductivity of materials, maybe this particular batch of wire you have is defective, and when it heats up while attempting to fire the coil, the resistance drops so much as to overload the eGo battery? Or the resistance skyrockets and there just isn't enough power available to get hot enough to vape.

Anyone know of the specifics about that kind of stuff? If you measure the coil's resistance, and then measure the resistance of the coil WHILE it's being fired, is it possible the OP's Kanthal is changing to a large degree?

Most curious, hopefully someone can figure this out.

^ I only counted wraps at first, then I got a $400 multimeter, and checked resistance. Most of the coils I made should have worked (1.5-3ohm). They were all built perfectly, which isn't hard to do.

UncleChuck, I don't think the resistance skyrockets when the A-1's heated up compared to other wire types causing it to go over range of what this battery can handle. It never heated A-1 coils to begin with, but as said, 1.5 to 2.8 ohm coils made form material besides the A-1 work fine on the battery, so if I made a 1.8 coil from the A-1, which I made plenty of that didn't work, it should have worked even it it rose to 2.8 (or maybe more because 2.8 is the highest ohm coil I had made from non-A1 wire, so IOW, if I had a 3.5 ohm coil not made form A-1, it probably would have worked (not good vapor though).

The key to the puzzle is simply that the A-1 kanthal I bought is either defective (people tell me it wouldn't be from the source Kanthal A-1 Wire, 32 Gauge .0080 Cig Cigarette) (though it works fine on my new 1300mah vision spinner),, or that the battery I'm talking about doesn't work with A-1 which is what I think. Doesn't work with this battery as in that the battery doesn't have the electrical specifics to conduct through what the A-1's made of, which is slightly different than D grade or nichrome. An extreme example would be to say the A-1 has something that's like palstic in it that the battery can't conduct with. It might just be how they built eGOs back then.
It was never a knwon probelm because this thread shows that people weren't rebuilding coils for ego-type cartos/clearos about 2 years ago when this battery was bought. Factory-made coils were likely built with cheaper D or nichrome and all worked. All the 2.5 year-old egos are either recycled because they were used 'till depleated unlike mine, or whoever still has one didn't happen to rebuid with A-1 and find the problem and try and figure it out with threads like mine. I highly doubt the batteries a kockoff, it was bought in store from a big successful vendor.

^ I was curious for the answer I said and didn't care about the battery really.
thanks for the replies. That pretty much solves it.

Done.

This is the 5th thread you have started on this.
Do not start another one.

Moved to Rebuildable Atomizer Systems with the rest of them.
