has a werid idea for a newbie ...

is there a desktop version mod, where the power actually runs off via a USB via a PC, or AC to DC converter ???

i am dreaming of a " shisha " version .... :D

I eventually plan on running an OKR-T off the 12V rail of my Desktop computer. I have to buy a second one for this but I will eventually get to it. The usb port just does not supply enough Amps for the wattage I vape at now days. =] Plus I put too much money into my current computer to blow the mother board with a home brew PT =]

My eventual design will be a retractable cord an resesed holder in the floppy bay of the tower with a V display and large volume knob for setting the V. I am also looking into tapping the main voltage in my laptop to do the same, however, laptop power supplies are a little more touchy so it may not happen.

Great way to do it, battery-less VV passthru that is. If you want to go for an even simpler non-variable device, you could just run a passthru off the 5V rail from the computer's power supply. Most desktop computer power supplies have pretty large current capacity on their 12 and 5V rails. Way more than you would ever get near running an atomizer. Plus, they have good short circuit protection with automatic reset.

This made me look up the spec sheet on my PSU, 12V+ Rail Max/Min: 80A/0.5A and a killer 960 watts. Granted I've got some goodies all ready drawing off it, but I think I have a few hundred watts to spare.

If you mean lappy as in laptop forget it. Even if you could manage to get a 12V tap off the power supply, they use power supplies with minimal ratings to conserve battery life. We're talking about running a battery-less passthru off a desktop computer power supply, not a laptop power supply or USB port. Running a battery-less passthru off of any computer USB port is a really bad idea. Some can actually handle it but with a lot of voltage sag. Most will either shut down the port with or without warning or the port will burn out possibly taking the whole motherboard with it. For passthrus with a battery in them, a computer USB port is usually okay, but a wall wart or other dedicated supply is still better.

If that's not what you were talking about, then nevermind.
