Hi everyone. As I've read literally hundreds of threads since properly quitting analogs and restarting vaping, I thought it may be helpful to very new members to hear what I've learned in the last few weeks.
My previous vaping experience was cut short when I switched back to analogs because I didn't think the Ego-C I was using was good enough to keep me off. I now know it was the choice of e-liquid that made me switch back. My first e-liquids were 8-12mg as I didn't want to start off too high, but this time round after trying a few samples, 18mg was the one for me. Now I'm 11 days in without a single analog, and best off all I'm not only finding it extremely easy, but really enjoying it too! I still use a cheap Ego at work because I don't want an expensive mod in my pocket. It's perfectly good and an excellent starter or cheap knockabout.
I saw many threads here describing/showing mods and it made me want one soo bad! The only things that put me off initially were the high cost of most and horror stories about lithium batteries. I solved the cost issue by purchasing a Smok Magneto. It's a gorgeous thing to hold and look at, performs like a champ and easily looks in the same league as the very expensive ones. This cost me £33.99, and I purchased a Kanger Aerotank for £18.99 which matches it beautifully. Together they truly amazed me when I first fired it up, and honestly still does! The Pyrex tank gave me peace of mind instead of worrying about cracking plastic with certain liquids, as I only put sweet ones through this and tobacco through the Ego.
I read for hours and hours about battery safety before I felt confident enough to have a try. I use a Panasonic protected 18650, and so far I'm finding it all super easy to use! My intelligent charger shuts off charging automatically, which solved overcharging dangers, and it quickly becomes obvious when to charge up again when the vapour suddenly feels very soft and unsatisfying (I found this point comes a good time before dangerously low voltages). A multimeter to check voltage and resistance of coils can be had cheap and are very simple to use. The Magneto, like many other mods also has discreet vent holes in the battery tube in case the worst happens, avoiding a potential pipe bomb.
I bought a few bottles of very good quality e-liquid which was amazing from day one, but all this talk of steeping made me want to try it! I can tell you it works so well it defies belief! Like most e-liquids, mine came in a plastic bottle with a dropper tip. I simply unscrewed the cap, pulled the tip out and sat it on a shelf in my wardrobe for a few days. In as little as two days the smell and taste were just incredible! My first steep was a lemon cheesecake flavour. Before steeping it had a very nice flavour of it, but afterwards it smells and tastes EXACTLY like it! Watermelon was the next and again, made it so much more authentic.
I also spent many hours reading up on atomiser cleaning, before settling on an overnight soak in vodka and allowing to dry on a paper towel for 10-12 hours. I figured if vodka is safe enough to drink, I wouldn't make mistakes with it. I got some extremely cheap stuff (I don't like drinking it so didn't see the point in anything more!) and it works just fine! I'm sure even after only putting 10ml of e-liquid through it that it vapes much better now than new.
The latest things are switching from a steel to a glass drip tip, which I prefer much more and buying a rebuildable dripping atomiser. Again this can be done with little cost while still experiencing good quality. I have a Micro-D that cost less than £8, which considering that it's made of stainless and includes 3 pre wound coils and a tiny screwdriver, all in a metal case is amazing! I bought this purely because I have 16 samples of 1ml coming in the mail and I didn't want to have to do a full clean on my tank when switching. After some advice on here, I intend on giving it a quick clean and simply replacing the wick (again very cheap, pennies per metre).
All in all, as I say, I'm really enjoying the experience and it's the first time that I've genuinely thought that I'll never touch an analog again. I don't worry about smelling of stale smoke any more, and standing next to a smoker I already can't believe I did it for so long! It smells so bad, it burns my nostrils and makes my eyes water! I'll certainly be sticking to amazing flavours and no smells while sitting indoors
Oh and I used to snore so loudly that I thought I may end up being single again, but after just a few days it has decreased to almost nothing! Sinuses are also so much better. The wealth of information, devices, accessories and e-liquids will always keep me interested.
If any newbies are feeling overwhelmed, I would be glad to offer any advice I can!
