Not that I'm wrong, but curious as to what the other members are doing. A couple of days ago I purchased my first rba, an IGO-W, and I now have a 2nd hobby I didn't need. Anyways, I did 8 wraps of 28g kanthal, then threaded 4mm (2mm doubled) silica strand for wick, which fit perfectly, and ended up with 1.6 Ohms, and only using single coil, not dual, yet. Here's where I am wondering if I'm doing it wrong. I am using a smok SID model VV setup with a Efest IMR18650 2000mAH battery. I have it in Wattage mode set to 13.0 watts. I'm getting mad vapes from it, it's my new love, but looking at vape charts and such, says I should be in the 8.5 watt range, but the coil doesn't even get hot till I get to 11-13 w range, and my battery is not hot. What am I missing? Thanks in advance, and Merry X-mas to all.

The charts are made for stock coils (standard gauge). As you use thicker wire, YMMV.

Check the amp limits on all your batteries also note that many devices have amp limits too. So if you want two coils and still keep it in the 1.6 ohm range, you may need thinner wire to pull it off...or a lot more wraps and a lot more watts.

So there's amp limits on devices, amp limits on batteries, and coil effective heating.

Example: Many mods have a 15 watt limit (or 20 if you're lucky). That's why people move into mechs and/or use slightly thinner wire (like 30 ga).

Your not doing it wrong.. it's kind of subjective, the charts that is, are basic guideline. I have some liquids that don't mind being at higher watts/voltage and some that burn up and taste horrible if it's too high and fine at low. I usually tell people to find their own zone of wattage or voltage to give them what they desire in a vape. As long as your being safe within the power of the battery your using amp wise.

Hey RCH69,
You using the 100% sterile, organic cotton balls from CVS?
Boiling for 15-20 minutes does help with the "sucking on a wet cotton wash rag" taste.

After that, I found it hard to go back to silica......
10/11 wraps of 28 kanthal (1.8 ohms), thick cotton wick
flavor heaven, clouds as a by product, even on the itaste VV V3.:vapor:

what ohm meter are you using, the one on the mod or a multimeter type? Also, a coil by itself will heat up faster and hotter when not in contact with a wick. Add the wick, fluid, and cold ambient temps, you have a serious drop in thermal transfer rates. Evaporation ( vaporizing a fluid) takes energy, thus more watts needed to get everything up to temp.

Optimal voltage/wattage charts are garbage. Vape by feel if 8.5W feels weak on a 1.6Ohm coil (be weak for me) then crank it up. Vape where you feel comfortable. the SID has solid protections and won't let you get in the danger range where you're likely to blow you're face off. Vape quality also depends on the juice you're using as well. I've been using the Russian 91% on the MVP v2 at 11 Watts on a 1.3ohm micro coil build. Been using the Kayfun Lite Plus on the VaporShark DNA at 17.3Watts on a 1.2Ohm micro coil build. Boba's Bounty in the Kayfun and a local dragonfruit/pomegranate 50/50 juice in the Russian.

I used 100% cotton wick, but I'll try the cotton balls next. I have an actual ohm meter for attys, couldn't live without it. I mastered T3's with it, so now want to try different coils, dual coils, whatever makes sense and is safe of course.

So I ordered a Kamry KTS last night, is 3.9-4.1 watts the best I'm gonna get out of it? Will higher rated mAh batteries make a difference? Does that also mean I need to run lower ohm coils to get the coil to glow? I still have questions!!! Thanks again

go for .8 to 1 ohm coils and it will work great on a mech. any lower and you need to go higher then 10 amp batteries to be safe.

you can either have very high Mah or very high discharge, above 2000 mah you not going to get both. if you stay within the the 10 amp limit of most batteries go for Mah.

as soon as you start going above 5-6 amps you need better batteries for the load.

there is so much to batteries beyond just amp limit and Mah there is also voltage drop to consider and some batteries do better over 5 amps then others

lets say at 6 amps one battery is 2600mah but has a .4v drop yet a 1600mah battery has a .2v drop under load. the 1600 will seem to last just as long as the 2600

Your running it to low is all, crank it up to 15 watts and then report back. Sounds like you did everything right and discovered the joy of high watt vaping. I vape everything at a minimum of 15 watts, and my rba's that can handle it, I go sub ohm and straight mechanical, a .5 ohm coil will get one into the 30 watt zone.

As stated, the chart is for prebuilt clearos and replaceable atomizers, and once you venture into the world of rba's and rda's it can be used as a fire starter or recycled. Once into rba/rda's it's then just a matter of optimizing the build for the particular atomizer being used and the mod it's being fired on. With Mech mods one also has to look at the batteries amp limitations, but since you are using a regulated mod, you only have to worry that your build ohms are high enough to get max watts out of your device. 1.5-2 ohms is what I aim for on my regulated device so that I can crank it up to 15 watts.

Mech Mods will only deliver the voltage of the battery to the coil.

Most batteries will not deliver their max voltage all the time.

A "kick" set for 8 watts may help with the long term vape.....
and provide some battery safety for the Mech.

A higher mAh battery may last longer, but it will still start decreasing in voltage,
from the first "button push".

Mechs are unregulated comparied to the APVs,
Push the button on a Mech,
you get the full battery voltage....(what ever it is at that time).

The mAh on the battery, just gives you a little longer at a higer voltage.

All batteries start dropping voltage from the first button push....

Lower ohms may postpone the drain, but increase the need for battery safety....
some kind of "Kick" or a "fuse" is a must.....
Safety first......

Ah, yes... I know that wet dishrag flavor real well. I use organic cotton balls, stick 4 or them in a bowl of filtered water, and put it in the microwave for 4 minutes. Boils quick, and gets rid of that initial flavor. I then set them out to dry.

Those Ultrafire are junk. The name is the first clue...
I make it a rule not to buy any battery, charging, or vaping device with the word "fire" in it. It's just bad JuJu...
