To put it as simply as possible, if you think of electricity like water--the amp rating would be comparable to the size of the hose you are running water through. Higher amp rating means the ability to safely deliver more power. Try to push more water through a small hose and it will burst--messy, but no biggie...except in the case of pulling too much power from a battery you might just create a meltdown--sometimes catastrophic and/or expensive.

Amp= Amperage which means the higher the amp the more power (longevity) of a battery. As Susan-S pointed out if you're referring to a mech mod and it's battery the same still applies except certain amperage is necessary for certain builds so as to give the best and safest vape. You have to have enough amps to supply the coil without the battery venting (busting/blowing up).

Technically, only amperage/unit of time determines longevity on a battery, ie: mAh ratings specifying the number of amps that the battery can deliver over the course of a unit of time, which in this case is hours. A is not the same as Ah! Just wanted to clarify.
