sometimes it is less then stellar materials used in the clones. where one may be stainless and the clone is chrome plated mystery metal.
things like how well everything is machined how good are the threads etc.

sometimes the metal itself can be thinner, not a big deal on some items but for example you buy a high end dripper then get the 5 dollar clone and see the metal is half as thick. the posts are thinner and weaker and the screws are plated.

another good example is even if it looks the same things like switches and buttons may be cheaper versions not built the same way or as well as the originals. mystery metal springs. unknown coating. and all kinds of little things.

it really depends on the actual clone you are trying to compare some are made quite well and can be an identical copy in every way,,, others not so much.

then there is the belief that many developers who seem to put out a lot of stock all the time and seem to have no problems with restocking all the time may actually be using the same factory to produce their item as well and the identical clones may in fact be seconds or a second line at less cost just to get the sale anyways.

a good example of this is a mod sells out yet they restock like clockwork while another mod restocks after 6-8 weeks sells out in two days then its another long wait for more.

^what an awkard attempt at trolling. Anyways. As thrasher said, it's overall just the materials used in the production of the pv/mod ect. It's like if you bought a pair of Nike shoes and then bought a pair of..idk..Niks shoes(not real, just using for example) you would notice a difference in the wear of it. Sometimes you luck out and get a perfect clone, sometimes you don't.

I wouldn't hurt anybody and i guess the subject have been widely covered, but, why buy copys ? To save the money you'll spend in bottles of juice anyway ?
In one hand you have the idea of a man, its protoypes on a lathe, its mistakes and methodic ameliorations, in the other hand you have a business man who have all the cnc tools to do exactly wath he wants but unfortunately no brain outside its profits, so he decide to copy the idea of another one at a micron precision ? Forgotting the way - by wich workers in wich conditions - these fakes are produced, i may appreciate the 'performance' alone, as a fake watch give time and a fake pen writes, for sure ;)
Sorry, just my opinion!

You have to take that question on an item by item basis to determine if your question is relevant or not. Read reviews before buying anything. Some of the differences you have to decide yourself if you can live with or like even.

My example would be I got a couple Killer clone RDA's. Dirt cheap price - you know... Not comparing them directly to anything else they looked ok. Then I picked up a real Killer 705 and the differences stand out. The clones are supposed to be stainless steel. And they probably are but it's a matte looking finish while the real Killer is polished stainless. The threading on all real Killer parts is smooth while the clone threads are... a lot less than smooth. Top edge of the real Killer is smooth, top edge of the clones are rough. Extension on the real Killer looks "right", extension on the clones looks like the center post is poorly made (too large, too flat, too recessed) and ready to short out if that post doesn't hit a 510 connector perfectly.

In the end? I'm using the real Killer and the clones are just sitting there. So...

Thanks guys!

I have to admit that my first mech mod will be the Caravela clone from fasttech. i havent even gotten it yet and im regretting my purchase. oh well, ill see how it functions and how it looks when i get it. if it doesn't satisfy me ill be sure to pass it down to a friend of mine and ill go ahead and look towards the more high quality mech mods.
