Anything I've ever gotten (I'm in the US, and order everything via USPS cheapest method), it just goes into my mailbox with no signature required. I've never looked at the emailed shipping confirmations closely, but usually if they link to USPS Tracking, there'll be a statement someplace on the page saying if one is required or not.
