Here is what I assume causes a burnt taste. Perhaps someone could add to thi list or correct me:

1) wick not wet enough
2) voltage of battery too high for atty or carto
3) pushing it too hard
4) frying your juice as in 2 or 3 above
5) trying to vap with batteries too run down

Once the PV gets the burnt taste, it seems like it wants to linger on. What's the best way to get rid of it?

a) Wash the cart and filling (or carto)?
b) Soak atty in alcohol?
c) Boil the atty?

When I use an atomizer (which isn't very often) and get a burnt taste, I just add 3 or 4 more drops of juice into the atomizer. When an atomizer is empty, I add 6 drops, blow once lightly to push the juice down into the ceramic bowl, then add 3 drops. 3 drops = 9 drags, and after that, it needs 3 more drops, or I'll get a burnt taste. If I do get a burnt taste, I'll add 4 drops, because it tells me I waited too long to add the normal 3 drops.

I use cartomizers about 99.9% of the time and would only get a burnt taste if I vaped the filler dry, meaning the built-in atomizer is burning the filler. I replace cartos (refill the one I'm using and grab one I refilled the day before) when the flavor isn't as strong. That way, I never get a burnt taste when using a cartomizer.

I can't comment on using high-voltage batteries, but I don't recall seeing any comments about getting a burnt taste when using a HV battery.

Regarding the 2nd part of your post, see my responses above. There's no need to clean the atty or carto...just add more juice or replace the empty carto with a newly-filled carto.

Batteries being run down wouldn't cause a burnt taste.

I recently received a defective batch of cartomizers. Four of the first seven cartos I filled had a burnt taste. I returned all 11 boxes of cartomizers for a refund. The burnt taste I got from these cartos was not due to a lack of juice, which is usually the case, as mentioned above.

Damp wick (not too dry) will not give burnt taste. One reason is because you are burning the filler - the cotton thingy. It has become too dry. If the condition of the filler is still good, it may look brownish but doesn't look like sand. In this case you may continue refilling it with e-juice. If the filler looks like sand, you may wash it with plain water but squeezed dry. You may start by washing the atty with plain water first but blow it well from the bottom of the atty. Try to begin with simple things first.

I don't have a powerful PV so I get burnt taste from 3 things...

1. Cart needs to be topped off. And if topping off doesn't do it, I check to see if the cart needs a full refill (remove stuffing, pat it between paper towel, fill cart 2/3 with juice, replace stuffing, top off with a drop or two)

2. Battery is nearly drained

3. Atty needs to be swapped out to be cleaned. So far weekly cleaning is working for me. Every weekend I put the atty I've been using into a jar of alcohol and switch to a clean dry one (I prime it with some juice). I swish the atty that's be cleaned in alcohol a couple of times during the day. The next day a swish it more then take it out to dry - set it on some paper towels until the next weekend.

this is why I'm a dripper

I usually drip at home, and the worst thing about dripping is setting down your PV when you should have refilled it, then proceeding to vape it after the remaining juice has managed to find its way off the coil. That might just be because I took the the bridge and filler out though.

I was just about to ask about this. I have a new passthru and I'm using a new cartomizer on it and its full. Yet I get the burnt taste. I tried switching carts and I'm still getting the burnt taste. Obviously its not dry(filled using cart condom method).

What kind of passthrough do you have?

What kind of cartomizers do you have and where did you buy them?

There are two kinds of "burning tastes" this could be. Vapor that's too hot for your mouth (produced by higher voltage) and is burning your mouth -- or an actual burning taste coming from defective cartomizers. I've experienced both, so that's why I'm asking these specific questions.
