You must keep any product that contains nicotine out of the reach of children and pets. The most common cause of nicotine poisoning in young children is ingestion of cigarette butts. Parents usually remember to keep the unsmoked cigarettes out of reach but don't stop to think about the poisonous contents of their ashtrays.

Here is some info on the subject. Nicotine poisoning - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

First of all, was a substantial amount of juice missing? Was the lid off? How big was the bottle? How old is your child and how much do they weigh?

I would imagine a child over the age of 6-7 getting a few drops of 6mg in their mouth would be okay, but there's a world of difference between that and an infant drinking an entire bottle!

Is the child displaying any symptoms at all of nicotine poisoning?

Wow okay thank god, I was about to get ...... and yell at you for coming to an online forum instead of taking your kid to the ER lol!

All I know is that when I was on the patch I accidently bought and put on one of the very high nicotine level patches, had to go to the ER because I had a headache from hell and couldn’t stop throwing up. A small child with a low dose would probably have the same results, maybe even be fatal if he drank a good portion of the bottle.

You really need a locking box around kids AND pets (there have been some sad threads over the years about dogs chewing full bottles of nicotine liquid).

Walmart carries several types of Vaultz locking boxes and they're pretty inexpensive. I like the medium size camcorder box with key. Walmart.com: Vaultz Medium Locking Camcorder Case: Audio

That makes it doubly scary. I have kids and try to be scrupulous about it, but reading the PDF reminded me that I have some old nic patches and gum lying around. Never thought how dangerous they could be - esp the gum. Will have to track it down and get rid.
I'm lucky in that I don't like the throat hit from high nic liquid. It feels more a burn to me. Might just switch to 0 nic, just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the HU.

i try to keep all my juice bottles up high on shelf or locked down, and also as a precoution only buy e-juice in the bottles with childproof caps, just in case,. i know that we can always be extra carefull.
there is alot of juice venders outhere that sell their juice in easy open bottles, when i do get one , i transfer it to the bottle that accepts the childproof cap. just a heads up
good luck and be safe&Vape

What happens when a kid swallows any juice?

Let's hope we never have to find out!
Hey pseudo-hippie - try to be consistent with your own words in other threads!!! Right now you are not!

Just to clarify for those who have not followed the thread about calling the liquid "juice". Mr hippiebrian thinks it's very nice to call it juice... it doesn't matter.
And here he pretends to be so caring about children... in my world it's called hypocrisy.

If you would read my posts there calmly and rationally, you would realize that I was not being hypocritical at all. I called to have parents keep this out of children's hands. I don't care what it's called, it needs to be kept away from children. Calling it juice, happy liquid or rat poison is not an issue. Keeping poison away from children is. I haven't waivered from that point.

Your personal attacks are beginning to anger me. I am truly sorry you are so hung up on names and that we don't agree, but you are really going overboard here.

I agree with this! If needed tranfers it to a bottle that has a childproof cap. If you aren't using the bottle and it doesn't have a childproof cap wrap tape around that sucker.

All of the stuff I do regarding my personal vaping is done in a seperate room. All of my supplies, and liquids are in a seperate room. When the grandkids come over, or whenever I leave the house(just incase they come over to play when we are not around) the door is shut and locked.

Even the cat is barred from the room. She sits there and meows at the childgate lol

PS: Grandchild 2 of 4 is my avatar. I wish we could have rotating avatar images :)

I think the main focus would be making sure your child cannot get to your e-juice. One can carry a fanny pack around for that...or modify something. Just keep it out of reach of children, pets, your teenage kids(if they cannot be trusted), and so forth.

Keep it safe...

I forgot to really answer your question. If your child ingested nicotine it would warrant a trip to the local ER.

What would happen is that your carelessness would single handedly stain the image of e-cigs, forever giving the FDA and the antis the perfect argument to demonize our PV's. Additionally, you would become the most reviled individual around these parts and you would be a child short to boot.

Thankfully, this is all a hypothetical scenario.

I would highly recommend learning from this frightening experience and be a lot more careful about your e-cig supplies, keeping them out of the range of squishies.

On a side note, hypocrisy would be to start a topic with a scary, fear-tactic, sensationalist, shock-oriented title that would make a hypochondriac's heart skip several beats - before they put down their e-cig and go back to analogs in fear - and then demand people to be sensitive and careful about the words they use, lest they make a child grow poorly adapted and cross eyed from the usage of the word "juice".
