Im new to vaping still and have been learning so much here on this site. Finally had to create an account because i know you guys know what just happened.
I have an kanger ipow and kanger tanks, dual coils. I picked out a juice i had steeping and loaded a fresh tank with rinsed out and dry coil. I let them sit for awhile before i vape but maybe i forgot and didnt wait like i should because i thought it was melting or something.
First hit was overpowering (hard to describe) um, chemical? Felt like it burned when it went down. Horrible and now im skiddish and down right scared to do that again, lol. That happened yesterday and today my throat is kicking my ....! It hurts, did i burn it? My love for vapor has become very short lived and would like to fall in love again, but i scared!

Called a dry hit, make sure you prime your coils before you put it in the tank. Put a few drops of ejuice in the top of the coil (on the cotton) and let it soak in for a bit. Install your coil and fill your tank with juice, let it sit for about 10 minutes then you should be able to vape if alright. Not sure what wattage you're vaping at but if it's over 80w you need to step up to that wattage. Start with 40 then step up to 80 so the juice has a chance to fully soak in.

Hmmm. Sounds like the coil wasn't properly primed and you got a nasty "dry hit". I absolutely hate it when that happens!

I always do what we call a "primer puff" or two when I vape with a tank, especially with a newly filled tank with a new coil. Just take a couple of draws as if you were vaping, but with NO power applied, just sucking.

And its suggested to do as MrNobody says, gradually step up to your usual wattage. Drop the wattage and move up in increments until the new wick and coil are properly broken in.

If it is a cotton wick then it probably is shot after the dry hit, once cotton burns it is toast...figuratively speaking. That said, if it is silica wick, it may be just a matter of cleaning it good then start the process over again.

I think dry hits are even experienced by all of us reading, every time I read about a dry hit, I taste it.....it is just that bad!

Hi Breezy Dawn and welcome aboard!

At least you know what to avoid now. It does get better with practice - don't give up . :)

Happy Vaping!

I am using the little ones,1.8 ohms and most times vaping around 8 to 9 watts. I am still learning no doubt. I have been changing flavors so often most times they havent been in juice a full day so ive just been running hot water over all the pieces and throwing on my window sill to dry for day or so. I would love to hear some tips about cleaning them :)

Hi Breezy, and welcome to ECF.

All the above, and one other thing to consider...

Some flavors are called "tank crackers" and will dissolve the plastic tank. Not knowing which Kangers you use, they could be plastic or glass. (If all your tanks are glass, skip to the next post! :) ) Your mention of "chemical" brought that into my mind.

If the tank looks "etched", that's what is going on, and the tank itself will never be the same. So IF that's the case, only use that / those flavors in glass tanks.

I prefer soaking in vodka or everclear - it dries faster and won't leave any residue. Tap water may leave minerals or who knows what, but I know many here use tap water.

Depending on how badly the wick burned, a cleaning may save it. And those tiny coils don't handle high VG well. Make sure your juice is at least 40% PG - I would not use less than 50 PG when I was using the tiny kanger coils.

If they are Protank 2 coils I found that 7.5w is the highest I could push them without a burn. But that was for out of the box coils, once I rebuilt them I could push 8 to 9w, but on the ledge to put it midly so I stayed at 7 to 7.5.:D

hummmm, well i have glass so thats good i guess. I am pretty fond of the genietanks and have few protank 3s,thats what ive collected so far, :) so far! I see this collection has been growing faster than my grass though!. A little sad they may not be great for higher vg. Most ive bought are 70 to 80 vg. SO much to learn

ya.... ummm only one person actually caught this...
"Im new to vaping" and "Im vaping at 9.0 watts." along with " have few protank 3s"
A few things with vaping (as well as everything electronic) is to know what you have/read up on it if you are not sure. ProTanks have a "recommended range (below)" for a reason. Also priming your coil is almost a must with most coils prebuilt or homemade.
Resistance Voltage
1.7 - 1.9 ohm 3.1 - 3.3 Volts
2.1 - 2.3 ohm 3.4 - 3.7 Volts
2.4 - 2.6 ohm 3.8 - 4.1 Volts
2.6 - 3.0 ohm 4.2 - 4.5 Volts
I am not, by far, bashing you or belittling anyone but please know what it does before you use anything. Doubling the recommended voltage range is dangerous and should be attempted only by those that know the risks.
