What do you guys do to keep your coils well-rounded/tight while wrapping them?

Hey everyone, so I decided to go with a dual vertical coil build on my Mutation X V3 tonight, when I noticed that my coils weren't very smooth and sort of had small variances in diameter. So I began to just yank on the coil as I was wrapping it, putting a ton of force on that sucker while wrapping it around the screwdriver that I use, but to little or no avail.

So what do you guys do to keep the diameter of your coils consistent and the spacing of your wraps close? I'm using 28g Kanthal, and even after I oxidize it it remains pretty springy and refuses to do what I want it to do.

Also if you have any other coil wrapping/building/wicking tricks, I'd love to hear them!:)

they made a version 3??? I am using the authentic v2
anyways I just slowly wrap around a drill bit making sure they are very close together then gently use my metal tweezers to tighten them, I tried using my plyers and pushed too hard and they snapped :\
so now I just use the tweezers to play it safe (I don't know my own strength!)

you can try torching them prior to wrapping, it helps soften them and I hear helps oxidize the, I don't do that though, I use 26 gauge

Say hello to my best friend, the Coil Gizmo. Here's Super X showing it off, because he's super good at that.

Here's a link to purchase said gizmo, although I got both of mine at local craft stores (Pat Catan's and Michael's). Make sure to get the "deluxe" one with 5 rods, as it comes with a clamp to secure it to your desk. I got the clamp-less version at first, which is why I have two of them now :)

oh oops I just saw that you do oxidize your coils so you use a torch, correct?

I used this method by rip trippers prior to doing my own wraps, maybe can help you too?

WARNING rip trippers eats too much sugar!! :p

Indeed I do, kinda, I don't have a butane torch (I'll get around to it eventually) so I just use a bic/zippo and then wipe it with an alcohol pad afterwards to get the lighter fluid and gross stuff off. Still strangely springy...but I am planning on grabbing some 24 gauge soon so maybe that'll be a bit better.

But nice thanks for the video my man! I know all about Rip's goonish videos don't you worry! I actually enjoy the comedy he brings to his videos contrary to many of the people I see commenting on his videos :)

Do you happen to know of anywhere I can find a bunch of info/tips on improving my building? Been sifting through Rip's youtube channel but I've mostly seen builds for specific types of coils and such.

I also use the wire and coiling gizmo for tension wrapping coils. Works great, and rarely have to pulse and squeeze the coils. Makes for fast consistent coils. Usually when I wrap coils now, I'll crank out at least 6 or so, then have plenty to choose from if needing a rebuild quickly.

I use primarily 26 gauge, but do have some 22 & 24 to play with too. 28 works well, but yeah, tis a bit on the springy side, anything thinner than 28 is just to squirrely to work with for me.

Vape long and Prosper.!!!!
