I made this Grant's Vanilla Custard Clone (I think):

7.5% Vanilla Custard V2 (Capella)
2% Dulce De Leche (TFA)
1% EM (TFA)

I'd seen various varations on this recipe, and read comments of people who really like it. But what I made ended up having a burnt flavor no matter how low I went on wattage in both my Magma clone and IGO-W plus, both cleaned out and with fresh cotton.

I wonder if I put 10% EM, which would have been 1ml in my 10ml recipe, instead of 1%. Of course, I'm going to remix this really soon without any EM to see if that was the culprit, but so many have raved about this recipe that I'm just not sure what went wrong.

But if too much EM tastes like burnt something, It might help me decide how to remake the recipe.

Shouldn't taste burnt at 1% but if it's 10% I would say yes. Is your coil clogged with burnt gunk and your wick black and crusty? Could also be your running to hot. If your vape taste like cotton candy you used far to much.

I would also use 1% sweetener instead of EM.

Deluce de leche should be fine at 2% but use no more then 2%.

Also you'll need to let it steep at least 2 - 3 weeks. Deluce de leche needs time to mature.

Also the version 2 custard is not nearly as good as the version 1.

Coil didn't seem to be clogged, at least no more burnt stuff than usual. (I always do a dry burn before wicking, and I wicked before vaping this a couple of times on both drippers. BUT, there was an unusual gray cast to the wicks. Normally they go brown if things get too hot. This was grey almost black in some cases. I'd never seen that before. And I turned the wattage on my Smok M80 Plus as far down as possible the second time. I don't vape at high temps, and the second time, I ran as low as I could go (and didn't get much vaper, either.) Used organic Japanese cotton, as usual.

Question about the Deluce de leche, before the 2-3 week steep, does it taste not that great, or is it just nasty? What I got from this mix was almost like vaping ashes, more that vaping something like a dry hit.

In my experience, EM is more of a smoother that adds moistness or fullness to a vape vs sweetening. I use it around .5 - 1% in almost all my tobacco mixes. Adds a touch of sweetness but that's not really what I use it for. I personally would never go over 2% with EM. It can mute other flavors when used at higher %s.

Unfortunately for me, I can taste sweeteners and I don't like the chemical taste it adds. Most people don't notice it but I do. I also notice the same weird note in all artificially sweetened beverages but luckily I don't really care for sweet anything so it's no big deal.

I've never noticed EM to wreak any havoc on coils. Sweet juices do though. It's possible the culprit is the Custard flavor. Seems unlikely that it would be the EM at such a low %.

No, If your getting something similure to the taste of a dry hit I would start checking hardware. Deluce should have a creamy caramel taste that's evident right after mixing and gets more pronounced with age.

Danny would stevia be okay as a sweetener? I have ordered some vanilla custard v2 and the dulce de leche I am not completely convinced re the diacetel issue but perhaps I am wrong so I did order the vanilla custard v 2

Many here use stevia I myself haven't tried it. Just make sure you get pure stevia with no additives.

Good point about the vanilla custard at high percentages. I know it clogs my coils in a few days. But if I'm reading you right you are saying it happens right away with new coils. If this is the case I would look at the hardware.

It's not hardware, before and afterward I was able to drip other juice without this problem. The only difference was a cleaning and a change in cotton. Same dripper, same coil, same mod. And it was exactly the same with both drippers: Magma and Igo-W Plus; twice, with other juices in between. Second time I made sure I started at the lowest wattage possible, as not to burn anything.

Like I said, I'm going to try the VC and DdeLeche as single mixes. Have them setting now, I think I'll wait a week before I vape them, then I should have a better idea.
