I wouldn't blame the vendor (retailer). I believe they're buying in good faith. Microcig, the maker, is apparently incapable of "eating" their deadstock when they make an improvement or alteration, and they push it out to the retailers and we end up with the stuff.
Also, FWIW - R4's have been distributed in both the 2 ring & 3 ring configurations. No apparent rhyme or reason - luck of the draw. The 2 ring configuration has a deeper mouthpiece ring that when seated against the filler ring performs the same function as the intermediate ring, which is sealing off the filler holes from the draw action. If your filler rings haven't been messed with, they shouldn't be leaking. Thin juices can follow the wicks
thru the cup slits and into the airstem when the carto isn't upright... maybe that's the source of your leakage.
The filler material in the package is there in case you want to use it to assist with the wicking and/or place it at the slits to control seepage. It wasn't included in my last order directly from Microcig.
