What gauge of kanthal wire is right for rebuilding kayfun clones and aerotank?

In the videos I notice people using anything from 28 to 32. Since one bundle is gonna last me a while, wondering if there is a reason to prefer a certain gauge. May be for versatility or workability?

    Thanks

I have 28 and 30 , I prefer the 28ga , it holds up to rewicking better than the 30ga and since it takes more wraps to reach your target resistance the coils have more surface area in contact with the wick , the 28 does take longer to heat up though .

I have 28ga and 30ga. I use them both. I have a Russian 91% which is pretty much the same thing as a Kayfun. You may want to spring for a roll of both from Temco since it is pretty inexpensive. Read some posts and see which gauge is being used in the types of builds you think you may be doing for the next several months. The 30ga will take up less room if you are going to do dual coils.

You also may want to check out the huge Kayfun thread. All kinds of builds and info. You will find your answers there.

If you MUST choose one, choose the lowest possible gauge that will fit into your smallest atomizer, the Aerotank. My guess is that 30g should be fine. And then when you go to build on your KF, you can simply take two (or three) strands of the 30g and twist them together to make a single strand of lower resistance wire that will better take advantage of the KF's inherent design awesomeness.

Twisted .28 work the best for me. So easy to work with ( that's 2 strands of .28 twisted together)

Depends on what you're going to be using your Kayfuns and Aerotanks with. Most of the regulated devices have a low ohm limit, for those I'd use 30ga as it's easy to get builds in the mid and upper 1 ohm range. For mechs or regulated devices that have a low enough ohm limit 28ga is easy to get builds in the lower one ohm range or just get a spool of both, it's cheap when you buy in bulk.

So 30 gas heats faster than 28? Hmmm another thing to buy!
Yes, but it also has less surface area and higher resistance. It is only good down to 1.2-1.4 ohms on a single coil before it gets too hot and burns your juice. It is great for 1.0-1.2 ohm dual coil builds, especially with micros. These recommendations are for mech use BTW.
