The last post by the moderator is supposed to be the "reason" it was closed.
I don't agree with it personally, but then it's not my forum to run.
I happen to be an admin on a very large ball python related forum, and our members don't always agree with our decisions either, but in the end, a forum is not a democracy, and it's up to the staff to determine how they choose to run and administer the forum.
With a membership as large as ECF, they can never make everyone happy, and it's often a thankless job. Each staff member is only human has their own reasons, usually discussed behind the scenes with other staff members before broad decisions like closing a thread are made (if it's managed anything like my forum is run).
While I feel that in the events of Unicorn Blood that it's very likely that there's reason for concern, in the end, there is no CONCRETE proof of anything for either side of the argument, so the closing statement was that everyone is responsible for coming to their own conclusion - ECF wasn't going to take a stand on either side.
At least that's my take on it.
