what is a protected and unprotected battery?

I have no clue what people mean when they talk about protected or unprotected batteries..so, can you tell me please?

And I also dont understand voltage. What voltage comes with standard models such as 901 and 510?

Unprotected batts have a little tiny hole where the attie screws into, and protected dosnt have the hole. Mannul batts are protected

Not %100 percent sure but they might be comparing automatic batteries to manual batteries(button activated).
I believe this is only important for the "dripping" technique.

protected batteries have a circuit board which help to protect from over charge and over discharge.
stock batteries have been found to throw ~3.0 volts to your atty.
