Not a dumb question at all. The video below was very helpful to me when I was new to dripping and drip shields. :)

A drip shield is used on an atomizer to keep the juice contained in case of flooding (putting too much juice in so that it leaks out of the tiny air hole).

Not lay it down, like on it's side. The shield is to catch liquid going down the sides if you don't get the drops directly into the atty. In theory anyway...;)

Ah, my poor Vamo V2 has that already - the cup surrounding the connector is apparently there for just such and occasion. I can affirm that it does work. :-O

Now if only I could figure out how to get the juice out of the cup. I've been powering down, removing the battery, and flushing carefully with alcohol. No-one makes a cotton bud (Q-tip) small enough to get in there.
