Yeah, the news seems to indicate that there will be new taxes in Italy on e-cigs. This is reported to be somewhere in the 50% and higher range. Luckily, Malta has some good shops that would ship to Italy. you can currently get UK and USA made liquids there. Not just chinese stuff.
There shouldn't be any extra tax if you buy stuff online, but it is unclear if Italian vapers will be able to order online.
The current thing that you can do is to contact your local MP's and MEP's and any local authorities and officials that you can. Don't let them take away your e-cigs. In the current
tobacco directive in the EU Parliament the real pending threat is that e-cigs are being lumped in with tobacco in the "cross border sales" issue. If this goes through as is, countries in the EU will be able to ban people from selling or buying from outside of their home country. This has the potential to destroy much of the
vaping industry as it currently stands.
