So I started vaping instead of smoking about 2 months ago and it has been one of the best choices I have ever made. I do have a tendency to get a little gear happy and throw myself into what ever I am doing. So this has been my progression (im sure it is very similar to most peoples)

Over the past 3 years or so I have tried various cigalikes on various occasions, not necessarily to quit smoking but for times when smoking was not convenient. It simply was not satisfying and would only be used when I absolutely could not smoke.

About 6 months ago, I purchased a super cheap zig-zag blister pack kit and some god-awful menthol juice. I still could not really get into it, but I had it around.

About 2 months ago, I was super broke and did not have enough money for smokes for 3 days. Perfect time to try the e-cig again. Within 2 days, my fiancé came inside after a smoke and I was absolutely disgusted by how he smelled and I have not wanted /nor had a cigarette since. But it was not enough. After watching a few youtube videos, I saw that a variable voltage battery might be the best next step. So on payday I bought a variable voltage battery and an itaste30 tank. Though I hate that tank, that was enough for me to not want to smoke. I found some good juice and It was good. Though that was enough to satisfy my smoking cravings, it was not enough to satisfy my need to have better equipment.

Over the past month and a half I have bought an istick 30W, a Delta II tank, a Herakles tank, Protank II a Velocity RDA. I have a istick 50 coming in the mail, but I ordered it from fasttech so it could be awhile. SOOOO, I just really started primarily dripping a few days ago and my istick just plain drains too quickly and I need something else. I don't want to spend so much money - no more than 75$ probably to get something to use. Maybe something a little nicer than the Istick 30- something more appropriate for dripping. Im just not sure what my next step should be. I was looking at the new istick 60WTC, and the Aspire sub ohm battery. But I am not really sure where to go from here. Im not comfortable with devices without safeguards. Anyway any opinions on where to go from here?

By the way thank you for reading my very longwinded story and I appreciate any advice that is available. Nice to meet you all!

You may find that the 60 watt iStick suits your needs. Depending entirely upon what resistance coils you are using to drip sub-ohm, you might get through an entire day between chargings. The lower the ohms of the coil, the more current it draws from the battery, the shorter the battery will last. Period.

If not, I'd suggest getting a regulated mod which takes replaceable, external batteries (18650 IMR). Should one battery not last you throughout the day, you simply replace it with a charged one which you can carry as a spare in a plastic case in your pocket or purse. I like the Joytech Evic VTC Mini (see below) 60 watts which takes a replaceable 18650 IMR battery (Sony VTC4 recommended). You'll need to purchase a box battery charger (Xtar or Nitecore recommended) to charge the batteries.

Thank you all for the input -my current coils are .5. These are the ones that were built for me at the shop, I have not quite started to build my own yet (though I have bought most of the necessary items to do so). I think I like the idea of replaceable batteries... I just am afraid of making a hasty choice and then wanting something different. My fiancé is very upset about the vaping thing and the $ that I have spent (though we do our money separate, I have a good job and he has no idea how much I've actually spent). I just want to limit the number of things that he actually sees and packages that I receive at home. He told me the other day "you might as well still smoke" Um Ok - not to mention the health benefits, the smell alone is enough for me to hate the fact that I smoked as long as I did.

Hi, Poolea, and welcome! Congrats on the transition to vaping; that's quite an accomplishment! As you are relatively new to both vaping and dripping, you may want to read @Baditude blog on battery safety, here: https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/f...ics-for-mods-the-ultimate-battery-guide.4848/ I found this to be a great resource as I began building coils and running mech mods. (I know you said you are looking at regulated mods, but I still think it's a good idea to understand the relationship between batteries and ohms. If you're a "throw yourself into it" kind of person, I'm betting mechs are in your future!). Best of luck to you!

Welcome to ECF! I also have bought a bunch of stuff to get started vaping. A Rocket combo from VaporFi, a Joytech eGo One, a Kangertech Subox Mini, 2 Nautilus mini tanks and a lot of juice and coil atomizers. Getting setup is expensive at first but it will slow down as you get a setup that you enjoy vaping. Don't let your fiancé ruin your pleasure in going smoke free! He should be proud of you for making a such a big life changing decision.
Extra batteries and a charge station are pretty much necessary if you are sub ohming (coils below 1.0 ohm) and you'll use a lot more juice sub ohming also. Something to keep in mind.

You're GETTING IT! :thumb:

Once you settle on a battery device and topper, your subsequent expenses will be only for replacement e-liquid (and replacement coils if using prebuilt coils).

Once you learn to build your own coils, the expense of frequent pre-built coils will vanish, too. Kanthal wire is CHEAP compared to pre-built coils. Home made coils can last MONTHS at a time. Simply dry burn/pulse fire them clean between wick changes.

Vaping is WAY CHEAPER than smoking. Plus, you can't put a price on better health.
