Batteries only explode when you use ALL CAPS in your post.

Seriously though, exploding batteries are not just related to vape products. Smartphones, portable computers, drones, toys, flashlights etc, have all been known to go boom! It is an unfortunate reality to society's need to be unplugged!

Let's not forget the debacle of the hoverboards o_O

The vast majority of ecig fires are misused mechanical mods, but not quite all of them. Any lithium based battery has enough energy in it to cause problems if that energy is released at once. Cell phones occasionally catch fire too for the same reasons. Imho carrying a regulated vape is no more dangerous than carrying a cell phone.
There are one of two UL certified vapes which have been tested to resist such things if you’re still feeling skittish.
There are several different chemistries that batteries use and each has its own different behaviors. One that was popular for a while when mechs were all you could get would not so much set fire as simply burst pouring out nasty hot black goop. The safest chemistry is rumored to be solid state ceramic lithium, but they are still in the research phase and aren’t out yet.

HELLO

I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF VAPE EXPLOSION IS IT TRUE OR WHAT OR JUST MECHANICAL VAPE EXPLOSE

AND IS THERE A FIRE PROOF BATTAREY 18650

THANK YOU

Most likely all mech mods, misused by people (aka people using mechs without knowing wth they're doing)
No 18650 is fire or boom proof, so don't be an idiot and you'll be fine basically.

Batteries contain electricity. Electricity contains well energy, and with a lot of energy comes the power to explode, sorry, you cannot (at this time) use a "fire proof" battery, you are sort of misunderstanding the purpose of batteries which is to store and discharge electrons or whatever electricity is made of, and I have a feeling that I am demonstrating only a slightly higher understanding of batteries than yourself, what I am trying to say is that it is really hard to be dealing with stored energy and wattage and all that stuff without the possibility of fire.

I mean, you could go vape one in the rain I guess, but that wouldn't make it fireproof.

You could also rig up a stationary bike to collect your kinesthetic energy and transfer it to your vape, potentially without the use of a battery for storage, but I don't know how much fun that would be.

And, despite being a battery idiot myself, I do know sort of the RIGHT stuff which is how to obtain, use, and store batteries as safely as possible, which is actually what you WANT to know and here are a few blogs that may get you there even if you are NOT a journeyman electrician, and they helped me, and I just demonstrated that I am a battery and electrical idiot, so cheer up if I can do it, you can too. Mostly mechs, protections in regulated mods can and do fail.

Also, I checked and my phone is like OVER five years old, so while the battery does not hold a charge enthusiastically, I must be doing something right there too. Probably by using it 5% of its capacity (mainly because it's all I know) so not heavy usage, but still.

Good luck just learn about safety, and like, well, you'll be okay (probably) if you just learn about safety. Honest.

If you watch that vid very closely, it's not the mod that blew up...he had loose batteries in his pocket. The same pocket that a lanyard is hanging from...hmmmm keys maybe *sigh. When he's talking the the guy before his pocket lights up, he has his mod in his right hand. He ends up dropping the mod trying to dig the batteries out of his pocket.

As has been stated already....it's all about the batteries. You HAVE to respect the batteries ;)

Good eye! And I thought he was just really excited to get into the Roxbury for the first time.

Actually I think more fires/explosions have been caused by loose batteries in a pocket or purse with other metal items. There was at least one that was a Smok Vape Pen with built in battery. The rest were misused mechs.

I don't know of any fire/explosions with regulated mods with removable 18650 batteries.

You can also have a very unpleasant experience if you use an unregulated mod and your coils are too low a resistance, the deck or the screw-in 510 connector shorts out.

Most regulated mods will shut down under such circumstances, so the chances of anything bad happening is negligible. Unregulated mods on the other hand don't care. Perfectly safe if you know what your doing, but if you don't know what Ohms law is, they are best avoided.

I've seen many rechargeable batteries go bang in commercial kit, and as been mentioned previously they need to be treated with respect. Apart from not carrying them unprotected in your pocket, if you purchase a reputable brand from a legitimate supplier, use a decent charger etc. you'll be OK. All of the battery failures I've come across were either due to not following best practice, or cheap counterfeits.

User error, generally. Yes, LiIon batteries-- all batteries; check that, all energy storage devices of any type-- are unstable to some degree. If they weren't, they couldn't provide on-demand energy. But in general, if you use them within the safety rules-- which rules can be learned here-- they are pretty safe. There aren't any statistics I know of, but I'll bet the vast majority of cases are: a) misused mechanical mods; b) idiots carrying loose "spare" batteries in their purse/pocket where they can be shorted; or c) sharp impact on a charging cell.

Protect your batteries. Keep them in a case that prevents them from coming in contact with things like loose change in your pocket. Better safe than sorry.

I don't know how useful this information really is but the FDA put together some tips on how to avoid having your vape battery explode lol.
