So on the old Kanger OCC coils, the taste of sharp, hot, melted rubber popped up very easily. I could never go over 25 watts unless I had a rare, lucky coil.
I know what singed cotton tastes like from having builds, and it's an organic taste. Not a rubber taste. Cotton tastes like cotton, even when it's virtually burnt, and it's not even bothersome when mild. It's a distinct burny taste all its own.
But this sharp, hot rubber taste is literally a inorganic taste, and if I experience any amount of it, even with vaping 0 nic to prove the point, my throat swells and becomes instantly painful. It'll sear my throat pretty badly (even 0 nic... and I don't vape ridiculous watts) and make me cough. I'll even cough up mucus where obviously my lungs are rejecting something.
On the new vertical OCC's, this rubber taste is %99 gone, no matter how far I push them, and its such a stark difference that I know something is bad about the old ones, but I can still taste it if I concentrate extremely, extremely hard. The real effect, however, is that over some time of vaping the new OCC's, my throat gradually starts to swell and become sore. On the old coils, it was instant when it happened. New coils, it's a gradual soreness.
To prove this further, I took a rest from vaping, then I went and got a build made today on a little RDA (not the Subtank), 0 nic, Japanese Cotton, all to test. The resulting vapor was so organic and pure that it actually soothed my throat and my throat immediately had no agitation or soreness! I smoked for several years and trust me, I can't even feel 0-3mg %80 VG 0.5ohm vapor at 30-40 watts! It's not that!
However, after a day of chain vaping, I'm starting to taste this same hot rubber flavor from my RDA, and the cotton is perfectly fine, the coils themselves gunky as any day-long coil would be (quite gunky). Gunk and cotton doesn't taste like this though. My mod is also become warm after about 4 hits, almost too warm to seem right.
My suspicion is that my insulators are getting plain jacked, and that Kanger's insulators on the OCC coils are probably lower quality than even all the insulators that have melted on the Mini decks. But I've never seen melted rubber on any of my gear or coils (not that I break my tanks or RDA's apart to check the internals), and my tanks only have had the most random short (using the KBOX) or whatever causes the KBOX not to fire maybe once every couple days.
Now that I say it out loud, it does sound concerning that my KBOX will refuse to fire maybe one hit day, but I have no clue what's causes that. It's done that for both the Subtank and RDA.
Any words?
Again, I have experience with cotton, and when it gets burny, it does not taste like rubber. It resembles, but it's a more natural smoke, and it doesn't make my throat swell! You really have to burn cotton for it to cause pain, and a lightly singed cotton barely even tastes bad, just funky, wet-doggy almost. I just don't think this has to do with the cotton on either my little RDA or Kanger coils.
The mystery again though is I've never seen burny looking rubber spots on my coils or decks. No sign. And if it's the post in my Nano's airflow base, I don't know how to check all that without making things worse. And with the coils, there's three different rubber parts inside, could be the grommet, the under-coil ring, or even the chimey-to-coil seal. And on my RDA, god knows. All I know is that my coils aren't touching the center post on my RDA!
