You will hear a lot of methods where people take the cap off for a day and shake the bottle and repeat after a couple of days. I am here to tell you that you don't need to do any of that. It's not that any of those methods are wrong; they are just no necessary. When I get a new juice in I try it. If I feel that it would benefit from some steeping, I place it in the back of my juice cabinet and forget about it for 2 to 4 weeks. All the other methods might expedite the process, but are not necessary.

I'm impatient, I try it repetitively until it's good or I give up. n Cap off for a couple for the first few days and shake it daily if I remember, I usually don't. Not the best practice by any means but like I said, impatient. If it takes more than two weeks to steep I wouldn't reorder anyways.

I'm not crazy about the need for steeping. It pays to have a lot of e-juice on reserves. I couldn't see myself waiting a week to smoke a pack of cigarettes and I wouldn't wait for more than week for any e-juice to steep.

There was a thread discussing accelerated steeping. The jury is still not out on it's effectiveness but I may give it a try.

I personally just leave the cap off for a few hours and shake a few times per day. Usually after a few days of this it's good to go. I hate having to wait though. You get all excited when your order does finally arrive, so of course you try it out immediately anyway. Some people say they just put it away and forget about it. When you find an awesome juice, how can you just forget about it?

Steeping reminds me of cigars. People love to let them age. Older the better they say. While I've noticed (on cigars) flavors do change with significant age, my method was always keep more on hand then I went through in any given time frame. This way they age no matter what. Sorry for the off topic comment, but that's what this reminded me of. LOL

I agree with the statement about waiting to smoke something... though I've seen the benefit of e juice steeping first hand. Bought some e juice from a local store, hand mixed while we waited. Got it and it was cloudy at first, like water down milk. After a couple days, clear with a slight tint. I've seen the opposite also...Got it clear and saw it darken after a few days.

That being said, I never thought it taste much different? But what do I know - my taste buds are burned from all those heavy strong (and yummy! ) cigars I've been smoking for years. :D

I was of the same mind, that taking the cap off wasn't necessary. But I had a liquid where ethyl alcohol was used in the creation, and two months in my juice cabinet wasn't enough time to make that go away. I uncapped it for 30 minutes, and in a week it was ready to go. I agree that in most cases just letting it sit is good, but for those where alcohol has been used in the process, I'm a fan of uncapping for a bit. Not for days or anything like that, but just to get some fresh air in there. I also shake the bottles every day or two. Some vendors will have info and recommendations on their site, too.

reminds me to give away those last 6 cigars in my humidor. lost all interest in them now. My method is to try the juice as soon as i get it. then steep two weeks and try again. A cool dark cabinet that doesnt get opened often and once a day i shake and take off the cap and squeeze the air out, or just wave my hand if its an open top.

i'm trying to get the headspace air out, that's where the volatiles (like alcohol) collect until equilibrium. New air to start it again. shake cap. i dont like cap off for contaminants and possibly losing flavor. After 4 weeks it goes in the frig. i then have to load cold after shaking and its viscous but they should last a long time in there.
