What kind of a shelf life does PG have?

I'm sure this has been asked before and I've tried to do some searching here on the forum, but I keep getting sidetracked by interesting threads and I've spent at least a couple hours looking with no results yet. So I'm wondering how long PG (I know I've read VG last longer, but I'm not interested in using VG) will keep at room temp and if it's possible to freeze it for longer storage? As an example if I were to find a good deal on gallon jugs of PG would I be wasting money to say buy 2 jugs if I anticipated it taking me 2 to 3 years to use them up? The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking I'll probably wait a couple more months before starting on DIY juices, but I see a deal for two 1 gallon jugs with free shipping for approximately $43 which seems pretty reasonable. I just don't want to buy 2 gallons to only have one be spoiled by the time I get to it a year down the road. Thanks in advance for any information you can share!

I got 2 jugs f/ essential depot for $40 delivered w/ the couponcode, several months ago 1vg,1pg,split them up into 1liter containers, all the way 2 the top,no air at all, used a ziplockbag, cut so i laid down a layer of plastic on top of jar then screwed caps on tite.i wrapped a few layers of tape around the outside of jar n cap to further prevent any air exchange,AIR IS UR ENEMY.then popped them in the freezer, standing uprite all lined up in the back, they dont freeze solid but get really thick like cakebatter, remain clear, and when a liter i,m mixing with runs out,i grab a new one f/ the freezer, and after a couple hours it warms 2 room temp, and is completly normal, like its never been froze,do the same w/my nic,i figure in the suspended animation they go into i GOT at least 2+YRS IF STORED RITE IN FREEZER...DO NOT FREEZE ANY FLAVORINGS OR PG/VG MIXED W/ FLAVOR,THEy will be harmed by freezing due to seperation....bthw-"EDPC10" is the coupon i used

Thanks so much DIGGVAPR. That's excellent information. It turns out I'm looking at ordering from the same vendor taking advantage of their free shipping and the 15% off code. I like to save when possible I just didn't want to buy in bulk and find out the hard way that I'd basically thrown away my money. Happy vaping!

Hi bobbybilly,
I can only tell you what I know........and there are alot of unknowns in this vaping.
Dow says 2 year shelf life. "PG USP/EP has a shelf life of two years when stored below 40c in closed containers away from sources of UV light. An ongoing stability test program confirms this shelf life. The shelf life refers to the length of time during which a product complies with its sales specifications when stored under appropriate conditions."
And also, "PG USP/EP is hygroscopic and may be subject to partial oxidation in the presence of oxygen. With increasing storage time, dependent on the storage conditions, the water content, color, odor and acidity can increase."
When you say a year down the road that doesn't sound bad, BUT, do you know how many ml are in a gallon?

Hi Judgement Affirmed. I did a bit of research this morning and used a conversion calculation on the internet. I believe it came to around 3,700 ML in a gallon. Yeah, that's a pretty hefty number, but I am vaping a lot and based on how quickly my 120 ML bottles are emptying that I'll put a pretty decent dent in it in a couple years or so. I did check some other places to get just a gallon, but when I figured in the shipping then it didn't seem like it would be much cheaper to only get one gallon. I may find out I've got way more than I will need, but it seems right when 1 gallon will cost me almost the same amount.

P.S. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I do appreciate you looking out for me and others. Us newbs can use help from you more experienced people.

3,785.41. But you've never seen me vape. Don't judge me. :)

I tend to purchase the stuff about 500 ml at a time and refrigerator store it. At those amounts, it fits nicely in the back of the top shelf and doesn't take up too much room. I'd freezer store larger amounts in an air-free (or at least minimal air) container.

Many people get 1 gallon of USP PG at Tractor Supply for $21

I'd checked Tractor Supply but unfortunatley no stores here in Chicago where I live. Since I can no longer drive due to a medical condition I'm pretty much stuck with whatever I can find locally accessible or through the internet. I checked out Walmart but the stuff they carried didn't specify USP type and I didn't want to chance getting the wrong thing. I pretty much looked as much as I could on line for a local source and finally got discouraged and decided to go the online route. If it looks like I have more than I need maybe I'll find a local DIYer who can use a gallon .

Your welcome bobbybilly, That was my intent. I thought of buying by the gallon also, but at my rate of consumption it would last me 9 years. Don't forget, in any calculating, to deduct for the flavor and nic. - in figuring how long a gallon would last.
Also Amazon.com sells PG AND VG.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU

Well, I don't know what numbers my fat fingers punched into my calculator yesterday, but today I redid the calculations and then rechecked todays math a second time and found out my numbers were considerably off yesterday. Doing the math with even figuring a little increase in my daily vaping to 6 ML daily one gallon last me almost 2 years. As Judgement Affirmed mentioned then my nic will further stretch those numbers out since the nic comes in PG or VG which needs to be figured into the formula. So for me very roughly figuring (roughly being a key word for this discussion) I'm probably looking at a gallon lasting me around 2 3/4 years. Of course before doing any DIY mixing I will use very exact numbers (checked and rechecked) and use appropriate safety equipment.

If I'd have done the correct math yesterday would I have bought the 2 gallon quantity? No. Instead I would have gotten one and paid more per gallon. Oh well, as far as mistakes in life go I've made bigger ones before so I'll just chalk it up to a relatively cheap education. The only reason I'm posting this is so if anybody else reads this thread they can see that I made a bad error in my original calculations so they can make a decision that would be best for their needs. Of course if my basic rough numbers are off (I do NOT claim they are exact, just real rough for discussions sake) then those with more knowledge than me can correct my misstatements to prevent others from erring also.

For some 2 gallons might be a great choice, for me I think probably not but your milage may vary. Oh well, if I don't meet a local DIYer locally in the near future who can use a gallon then I'll try the freezing game. If it freezes solid then I can freeze it in large plastic cups, pop them out of the cups and then vacuum seal the frozen chunks of PG up nice and air tight and then have them available for future use in quantities that are more realistic as far as short term use. It's a learning experience!
