What mech mods will I be able to use with the Atantis tank V1?

The problem with the hybrids is that the 510 pin of the Atlantis gets pushed up, and then the battery touches the hybrid connector/hybrid top. It creates a hard short which can lead to thermal runaway and explosions.

A mech with a top cap with a 510 pin is the way to go.

Short mods in 18650: Stingray X and other Stingrays. Some others aren't much taller like the Paragon or GP Paps.

I seen a lot of people with the Atlantis on mech mods but is it safe?

Yes, but it depends on the battery you are using. You are going to want a safe-chemistry, high-drain battery with a high CDR. A 0.5Ω coil will pull 8.4A on a fully charged battery (4.2v). That's without headroom. And since I try to never exceed 50% of the CDR of a battery I would want a +17A battery when using a 0.5Ω build. Since 10A, 20A & 30A are the most common I would use a 20A or 30A battery in this case.

The reason that I place a 50% limit is because as a battery ages the mAh of the battery degrades, as the mAh degrades ... so does the batteries c rating. (amp limit) So down the road, a 20A battery may only be a 10A battery.

If you are new to mech mods and/or rebuildables I highly recommend you spend some time with @Baditude (one of our resident battery/safety experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Baditude's Blog - Table of Contents: The blogs that address battery safety, Ohm's Law, CDR (continuous discharge rating/Amps) and how they all work together are detailed below:

BATTERIES

Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

Purple Efest Batteries not as Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

I know that using hybrid mods such as the SMPL wouldn't be safe with the Atlantis but why?

Too much chance of hard shorting/venting the battery. Here's a video for you: Hybrid Top Caps & Battery Failure

I can recommend a Stingray X as I've personally used it with the Atlantis. The beauty of the Atlantis (.5 ohm) on a mech is that it hits right at the optimal wattage for it.

I only put my tanks on regulated devices. Putting a tank on a mech is like putting a Hemi in a Volkswagen. Do you really want to be that guy?
What's wrong with a Hemi in a VW? If it works and suits your fancy...do it!

I can't let an opportunity slip by to recomend the nemesis. Maybe not as short as a stingray but not huge either, and if you get a quality version it's just a slick piece of engineering. Because of the way the adjustable 510 and the button work, everything sits flush and every battery fits perfectly. I've owned quite a few mechs and the Nemesis is the only one I have no real complaints about.

As for putting tanks on a mech... My Subtank mini with a 0.6 - 0.7 build on the Nemesis and a Sony VTC5, chucks clouds and hits like a truck.
