Well, the Provari is a good device from what I understand. :) Not the way most of us get started but I don't think you'll be unhappy with it.
Most of us started with something less expensive like an Ego C or a Twist/Spinner.

But you will need some sort of delivery device like a cartomizer or a cartotank or a clearomizer like a ProTank. There are all sorts of great delivery devices out there. I don't have a Provari but I do have an eVic and I use a ProTank or a CartoTank on it.

Congrats on wanting to start your journey! :)

Edit: Make sure your Provari comes with a battery and a charger or buy it separately. :) I'm sure the ProVape site can help you with that part.

I would strongly advice not to start with a Provari, it is a little in the expensive side to be use as a start-up kit. I would recommend a Ego Twist + carto, vivi, or any clearomizer tank and a few bottles of e-juice to start with and go from there. Starting out with a Provari + everything else that you would need you are looking at at least $250.00 with Ego you are looking at probably around $100.00

If you've done your homework and you think you'll be comfortable with a provari, why not go for it? I have never heard of a provari user who did not think it was the best thing in the world.

Be aware that it is expensive and there are FAR cheaper alternatives suitable for beginner vapers. Also, you will need a backup or five.

What kind of budget are you looking at? Provaris are at the top end. And while they are no doubt deserving of their place in the heirarchy, you may want to start with a less pricy kit.

You'll need some sort of power source - Provari is one example. Other end, and still a nice device, would be a Vamo. With either (or any of that type) you also need batteries, and a charger for them.

Or go with a "fixed" battery type. Vision Spinner is a good choice there, with its USB style charger. You don't need extra batteries, but you can't change them out when they reach the end of their service life.

You need something to put on top, to hold the juice and coil / head. I like the Kanger T3, evod and protank, others love the Vivi Nova style. Still others like the stardust / CE5 style. It's all a matter of personal preference. Each has pros and cons.

And juice. If you have a store that has a "vape bar", the best thing to do is go down and sample some different flavors. Helps to narrow the field. Yes, online juice is generally cheaper, but then again, you can get 20 different flavors before you find one that satisfies. By hitting a vape bar, you can get an idea of what types of flavors you like, and then go online.

http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm is a good starter kit - two VV batteries (I'd recommend the 1300 Spinners in two colors - easier to keep track of which is charged, a T3 and either an Evod or an ego Clearo or Iclear16, so you can test out both bottom and top coil units.

I didn't want to dissuade you from getting the Provari if you really wanted to get it. :)

However, this is what I started with.
*New* Kanger Tabac Bottom Coil Clearomizer eGo Kit in'a Case

The Provari is kinda like the Harley Davidson/Victory of vaping gear. But there is nothing wrong with wanting the best. :)

HTH.

Oh If I had to do it all over again, I would go with what DavidOck recommended. The Twists will allow you to adjust your voltage to your delivery device. I have a Twist now as well as my eVic and love them both (in fact carry them both pretty much at all times :))

I have a Provari. I bought it for my 1 month vape anniversary.

I use my provari at home, and ego twists when I'm outside of the house.

The key to a Provari is having 3 or more batteries. 1 in the device, 1 charging and 1 charged up in case you need it.

I keep 3 ego twists around of varying sizes. Sometimes I use these around the house but nearly always I use them in public.

That's the thing about the big tube mods. So many who have them say they only use them at home, and go out with a Spinner or a Twist...

So, what's the point? (Not knocking any one or any thing, but personally I don't care to spend $$$ on something I don't want to take everywhere.) Granted, replaceable batteries are a good idea, but then again, if I get 6 to 12 months out of a Spinner (two in rotation along with other power sources - I love my MVP and it does go out! :) ), at $25 apiece, it's still pretty cheap. And easy. And I won't cry if I drop and break it, or lose it, or...

Many of us here have taken up vaping as not just a smoking alternative, but as a hobby. Hence all the mods and such. But, imo, for general purpose use and simplicity, it's hard to beat the fixed battery units.

My provari is my morning dinner and afternoon Vape I never understood why people leave it at home either and much as I love provari s I wouldn't recommend one from the get go without knowing if vaping is for you but I can honestly say I wish I bough my provari sooner and It's one purchase I do not regret

:) yeah it's like buying a Harley and leaving it in the garage. Yeah it's pretty in there but it yearns for the road.
Wish I was riding today but my knee is messed up from over the weekend. But I digress, my eVic goes everywhere with me even if I'm carrying other devices.

I agree with Eric1217 completely

Here is great kit to start with

DV eGo Twist Starter Kit - 1100mah Stainless

(and yes, I do like doing business with discount vapors as they are very, very quick to fill and ship orders + they carry the evods and kanger protanks that I have decided I like better than my vivi nova's)

Hi, any advice to a newbie on what I need to get started? I was looking at the Provari - but I assume there are other tools I need. Thanks in advance for any advice....

Oof, jumping into the deep end of the pool! :)

Provaris are supposed to be one of the best things going according to folks around here who have them but they're "advanced" PVs. Sure you wouldn't want to start simpler and get started before leaping to a Provari?

The kit I ended up with is a lot like this one. Fairly straightforward and the parts you'll need to buy as you go along aren't too expensive. Then once you get into the whole vaping thing, figure out what you like and what works for you, you could look at an APV like a Provari.

My personal experience and im sure a lot of you peeps also...I started with a mystic cig. Did that for about 2 weeks. Moved up to a kgo kit. Loved it. Then went to a ego twist...awesome. then went to a 1st gen vmax. Finally ended up with my current Provari. I use it everywhere..home..work..at the bar..etc. I guess my point is, if you have the money..and don't mind spending it..why not buy the Provari? Your gonna end up with it anyway...lol Why spend all that money to keep upgrading...just go for the gusto right off the get go. Youll easily spend what the provari costs on various smaller setups...tanks..etc cause im betting your gonna want bigger and better as time goes by anyway. :)

Well I'm a newb, I started with the 650 mah ego-C passthrough battery and the Kanger Evod Clearomizer.
I was a heavy smoker 4 days without a real cig aka (analog)
The thing about the passthrough battery is that it charges with a usb so if your battery is low
u can vape while it is charging....
I was a hardcore smoker.....

Unless you're familiar with recharging loose generic batteries and are comfortable using a multimeter I wouldn't just jump into a provari.

You're flushing a lot of cash if it doesn't take you off of analogs (cigarettes)

I recommend a Vision Spinner/eGo-C Twist and some sort of clearomizer tank like a Vivi Mini Nova or a Kanger Mini T3. This kind of setup got me off of analogs right off the bat, and I was a pack and a half per day smoker.

Again, I only advise against going straight to an advanced mod like the provari because if you cant make the switch over to vaping, you'll only be out 40 bucks with the kit I recommend vs. $200+ Provari setup

If money is no object, then by all means go for the Provari of course. I don't have one so I cant give you advice about the device itself, however you should get some information on the batteries you will be using. Check out this place so you know what you're doing. Basic to Advanced Battery Information from Battery University

Goodluck.

Hi, any advice to a newbie on what I need to get started? I was looking at the Provari - but I assume there are other tools I need. Thanks in advance for any advice....

Do your research and use this forum board!
I just started a few months ago. At the beginning, I thought my head was gonna pop off, lots of stuff to learn. Atomizers, cartomizers, carto tanks, clearomizers....
I started with ego twists and vivi nova tanks. Now I have carto tanks and a Provari. The Provari is wonderful but I decided a while back that vaping has become a new hobby and I plan on doing it for a long while. So why not get the best?
However, my egos made me very happy and they are reasonably priced.
Go to a store where they specialize in e cigs and ask questions. That's one thing I've learned and it's true about me, most vapers looooove talking about Vape, sharing their knowledge and experiences with vaping. So don't feel bad or weird about asking questions.
Where's The Ocelot and Baditude?! They're filled with all sorts of information. Hopefully they'll see this post! :)

I agree with most of what has been said in previous posts. You will likely need a back up device and perhaps one for the road! For this reason and ego or ego twist starter kit makes sense. Then... once you get used to that and are successful getting off the analogs, go for it and buy the provari! You could make it a kind of reward for successful transitioning from smoking to vaping!

Congrats on your decision! Here's a link to a blog post I wrote yesterday that may give you a few helpful tips:http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/cmccl/4175-how-quit-smoking-start-vaping.html
