The Provari is supposed to be an excellent device, but as a newbie, you might want to start with something cheaper to make sure you like vaping and its something you want to get into. Then you can upgrade to the Provari. Id hate to see you spend all that money and then not like it. Try and Ego battery (American Vendors, so you get the real thing and not a fake) and maybe a Mini Vivi Nova tank? I use them and I love them so far. Totally wicked sells some great products and they have a UK and US website. Congrats, and welcome to vaping!

I always recommend egos to starters but I just received an MVP itaste and I changed my mind :). Super easy to use, gives you experience with VV with a very easy menu to learn on and the battery last forever! Started using mine on Friday and it is still kicking in original charge...although I don't use it exclusively. I have several mods and I use the MVP a lot!

You can get a kit at litecigusa for under $60 and it comes with a clearomizers iclear 30 with nothing more to buy to get started except juice. Can't beat that! I Luke however recommend another clearo or juice delivery tank, and most definitely a back up and that could be a ego twist. But another good thing with the MVP itatse is you can use it as a passthrough. Then as you get your feet wet you can get another device of your liking.

Just a suggestion though!

Thanks everyone for all your comments. I think the ego twist is the way I will go..
Sorry for being late to the party.

I see the OP has made a decision to go with an eGo Twist. That's a good choice for a beginner. Although if someone has the funds to purchase a Provari right from the start I have no issues with that, either. If things don't work out with a Provari, they re-sell for nearly what you originally pay for them, so you will never lose money buying one. Going with an eGo setup initially makes the most economic sense for a new vapor. There will be opportunity to upgrade at any time later.

I recommend at least two batteries. You always need a backup with whatever you have with e-cig devices. These are mechanical devices and they can and do occassionally stop working, often at the most inopportune times. (Even a Provari is not 100% foolproof.) Don't give yourself any reason to return to analogs once you have successfully quit. E-cig supplies are not as easily accessible as the cigarettes sold just down the street from just about anywhere.

I also suggest getting two different types of juice delivery devices. These work differently from one another and give a different vaping experience. Everyone will have a preference of one over another, so start out with at least two types and choose which you prefer. You'll likely try the other types over time. Keep in mind that these delivery devices are for the most part disposable devices and can only be expected to last 1 - 3 weeks, so get enough to last you until your next order for supplies.

Juice will be the hard part, but can also be the most fun. Taste is extremely subjective from one person to another. What I like, you may hate. The most cost efficient way to find flavors that you will like is to find online vendors who sell sampler packs. You won't be wasting money on the more expensive larger bottles that you may not care for. Once you find a winner in the sampler, order more in a larger size. Also, if you have a brick & mortar vape shop in your city, most of them have free juice tasting stations to try out different flavors.

Just be aware that you won't find a flavor that "tastes" like a cigarette. That flavor just does not exist in e-liquid form. Focus on finding another flavor which you like.

Nicotine strength in e-liquids: we normally recommend a 1 ppd smoker to start out with at least 24mg nicotine. You can always adjust the strength up or down with your next purchase to suit your needs.

Here is a Picture Dictionary of Juice Delivery Devices E-Cigarette Forum - Baditude - Blogs

Here is an example of a good Starter's Setup http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3706-4-good-starters-setup-beginning-vapor.html There is a tutorial for the eGo Spinner battery at the end of the article; it can apply equally to the eGo Twist as they are nearly the same device.

Good luck with vaping -- Baditude :vapor:

Hi, any advice to a newbie on what I need to get started? I was looking at the Provari - but I assume there are other tools I need. Thanks in advance for any advice....

I can tell you what not to buy, and that is the 20 dollar kits they sell in the Malls and Ma and Pa stores that look like real cigarettes, they suck, stay away from them [pun intended]. Searching through these forum rooms with a notepad and time reading will get you going. Expect at least 50 dollars on a starter kit and another 50 for juice, spare wicks and or Vapor heads, such as spare carto's if you choose a Carto Tank system. Don't go overboard until you decide that VAPING is the answer to your hand to mouth desires, than go for a big one for the living room and use your original purchase for the on the go, office or where ever you don't want to carry a billy club around. I love my Lava Tube but it's more suitable as a weapon than a smoking device.
A 510 connection would be advised because there are small on the go devices that uses this and also your big flashlight type battery cases called "MODS" are using 510 connections as well so your on the go system and chairside Billy Club smoker can now exchange parts and keep your inventory simple. Try to integrate your future choices so your Chairside device and Portable device use the same heads and have the same base threading such as the popular 510. But at first don't whack your budget and get a Silver Bullet with all the bling then find out this vaping thing is not it for you. If you should make this mistake with a top notch brand name you will at least be able to sell it off on Craigs List.com or in some classified area. Another concern, if the law whacks this whole vaping thing and you don't plan on becoming an outlaw [like I plan to] then I would seriously limit your budget to 150 bucks and consider the savings from now till 2014 far over and above that from real cigarettes. Your still ahead. But I f you plan on exercising your right to think for yourself and put Uncle Sam in his place where he belongs then "GO IT" if that lightbulb goes off in your head saying this is it for me I am a Vape now. Uncle SAM wants you to die from cancer , you should resist that as much as you can. VAPE ON!!!
