That's funny. I did the hypnotism thing too, and it was a waste of money. In the end I had an xray falsely diagnose me with COPD, and that was enough for me to quit immediately. No side effects or regret.

I've been through this too, trying to get my mom and some others to take it up. No matter what you do, some people just aren't going to get serious about it (until the time is right for them).

The good thing, is these things aren't too expensive. Get the VK and see if he likes it. If not, pick up a 510.

I bet though, if he used a vaporizer a few days with no cigarettes, he'd probably get into it. He can smoke ALL day with no side effects, no smelling, no ashes, no annoying people, and for cheaper than real cigarettes.

I love it because even though I smoked two packs a day, I wanted to smoke more, and would if I could have. I was never satisfied. Now, I can vape all day long and not worry about anything. It's a smoker's dream come true.

You're so right, Giantfan. I think it's a head thing. But we'll give a VK a try and see where it goes. Maybe those will work for him as they are easiere to deal with and the size is more like an analog. I personally think vaping comes real close to smoking analogs and I'm as happy as a pig in you-know-what. He's wasted $$ on hypnosis and all kinds of BS that didn't work. <sigh>

I also wanted my e-cig to mimick analogs as much as possible to ease my transition. I researched and chose to start out with a VK - ease of use - didn't want to fiddle with the darn thing.

Anyway... I have to say it's not like an analog for several reasons (not to discourage, but to inform):
1. draw is SLOW - when I smoked I was a power draw smoker - apparently I sucked REAL hard on cigs (smoked 100's and usual draw burned 1/4 of cig) so when I tried the VK (auto batt) it didn't work as well. I also got a manual batt but having to push the button irritated me because it certainly isn't like an analog.
2. Both auto and manual batts are longer and heavier than cig. I can't hold it between two fingers like an analog. Have to wrap my forefinger over top, next two fingers underneath, and pinkie over top. Feels weird and not like how I smoked my analog. This might annoy him or his hand/fingers might be strong enough to hold it like an analog - but it will still be heavier.
3. No ash flick - this may sound weird but I miss my ash flick somewhat. This also makes it different from an analog.
4. Until you learn when your cart is out (most people say it's when vapor goes down - if you're new you don't have anything to compare to so hard to realize - or you get a burnt taste - if you don't like the flavor it may seem like a burnt taste anyway)
5. If you were a cig counter (counted the # of cigs you smoke in a session of smoking) this will be hard - probably hard w/e-cigs in general. I advise having someone else (you smoke like to regularly do - if YOU count you'll be paying attention to what your doing and not be natural) count your puffs on a regular analog and then you could count your puffs on the e-cig to match then put the e-cig away until the next "session." But that might be too much of a bother for him.

Positives:
1. Ease of use - you just screw in the cart and vape away.
2. Once you get past the transition to e-cig, you feel comfortable with it, it's more natural, and then you can think of trying different flavors. The carts make it easy to switch w/out having to fill/fiddle with liquids and the atomizer maintenance of other models.
3. "Smoke" isn't as heavy in your lungs/mouth etc. The vapor seems to be lighter. Now, this may disturb him and I don't think there is anything can be done about this - it's vapor not smoke so there ya go.
4. Price - of course saving money is a major positive.

The greencigs look to be more like an analog but I would not discount them having the same positives/negatives as the VK - that's why I had purchased a VK - thought if I could get used to it then I wouldn't WANT to smoke analogs again.

Hope this helps, I'm a noob too - started Tues. on my VK.

If he's handy, tell him you heard about some people hot-rodding their vape setups with battery mods and other high-voltage hijinks. He'll be much more likely to vape on a machine he built himself. Point him to this forum (after you delete this thread!).

If he's not handy, tell him about the battery mods that are available commercially that provide high voltage. Make sure you tell him (oops, I mean "suggest" to him) that your itty-bitty 801 is just fine for you, but a big, burly, manly man might be able to handle a high-power vaping tool.

And then ask him to open a pickle jar for you. ;)

And this is also a great post that may work if he is a knuckle-dragger like me.
Opening pickle jars for my wife is one of the things in life the makes me feel special.

I ordered a 801 starter kit for myself first. I was the guinea pig if you will. He tried it and wanted one. Got his 2 weeks later and you know the rest of the story.

I just got a 401 kit w/extra attys from heaven gifts today. I like to try different styles myself. I'll let him try those to see if he likes the smaller unit better. Pen styles are kinda large. Then we'll probably try a VK.

Someone said Vapor4LifeK has Greencigs but I don't see it. Maybe they call it something else? Duh... My brain is really fried at this point.
The GreenCig kit is here, Vapor4Life- Electronic Cigarette: GreenCig Starter Kit (GC300) under Super Sale. This kit is the same as the one sold elsewhere for $139

Dripping is easy. If you don't have the patience to drip, then you don't have the patience to do anything. How hard is it to pull a cart out, take your dropper, and drip a couple on the atomizer? I mean, I just started doing it today. Takes me about two seconds to do it.

Dripping is easy, yes, and no, I don't have the patience for it. I don't want to have to pull off my cartridge and drip on to the atty every 4th or 5th drag. I have too many other things to do. I'm a mom of a teenager (no explanation necessary ;) ), and a wife, and a business owner. I want something hassle-free that's more plug-and-play. The 510 doesn't cut it for me, so I switched to the VK from Vapor4Life.com. I couldn't be happier with it. :)

Your mom said not to say...
Sounds like a combination of things really. It sounds like he is not too committed to quitting at this time, I don't mean this in a bad way, these are not magic sticks that immediately remove the urge to quit. I can't blame him though if that is the case if he wasn't getting enough nicotine satisfaction it's quite easy to say the hell with this and go straight to the comfort of a tobacco cigarette. Throw in what he perceives as weak vapor or throat hit and who can blame him for running to the tobacco smokes?

The 2 piece cartomizers do taste nice and are not as much of a hassle with the carts needing constant filling or if you dip/drip you need to have juice around at all times. I have a KR808D-1, a m401, a 510, and a mod for the 510. I find that I love the taste from the m401 the best, the 510 has good vapor but is harsh and battery life is terrible without a mod, the KR I am just starting to use but I am finding I like it. The draw is a bit on the light side require 3-4 draws during one puff but once going it is satisfying and warm vapor.

I sound like a broken record when I say this just about every post but try to keep in mind that while many of us have great success switching over to these, they were not intended for use as complete full time tobacco cigarette alternative. They were intended for brief periods where smoking a tobacco cigarette was not possible. Keeping that in mind, it's no wonder that the products in this infancy stage are not as good as many of us feel they could be. The point is to try to help him a bit and understand the concept behind these so he/you don't feel like failures. If he can drop from 2 packs a day to 1 pack a day I would call that a success. Not a complete success but it's a huge step in the right direction. Try to sit down and set some goals, start with some easy to achieve goals like cutting his tobacco usage down to a certain amount or only during certain times, like in the morning with the coffee and after meals, and the rest of the day he can turn to the E-Cigs. These things take time, look back on how many other products you have tried over the years to quit smoking and what a ripoff those were.

If I was in your shoes I would try to get him a couple different starter kits. I was a heavy smoker for 32 yrs and quit the day my Dragon/m401 arrived. Since then I have gotten the 510 and the KR and still am smoke free. Good luck and be patient, these things work overnight for some people and others it takes some more time, as long as he is showing some progress then keep encouraging and trying different models when you can.
