"If the FDA determines that e-cigarettes are safe and can be used as a smoking cessation aid, it’s likely that CVS will snap them up, and be more profitable as a result: e-cigarette sales doubled in 2013 to $1.5 billion, and are projected to surpass cigarette sales by as early as 2023, according to Bloomberg Industries.

When asked whether their tobacco products ban would affect their decision on whether to sell e-cigarettes in the future, CVS indicated it would not. "There is no tobacco in e-cigarettes," a representative tells The Verge. "FDA is evaluating whether they are effective nicotine replacement products with any health benefit.""

I suspect that even if the FDA evaluation is less than enthusiastic, vapes will still end up on the shelves of CVS. All they really want is a reason to, which in this case is FDA 'approval'.

The FDA isn't going to support e-cigs. Big tobacco has them in their pocket. The FDA never publicly corrected their inaccurate information from 4 years ago.

But toxic cancer causing cigarettes are legal and sold in drug stores and are about 400 times more toxic than e-cigs. If they discontinue sales, that only means more money for those who sell ecigs!

The FDA is not going to say anything positive about e-cigs until big tobacco can market their own brands.

Considering that BT already owns Blu, Green Smoke, and a host of other cigalike brands (and are shelling out millions to advertise them on TV), I think that BT aren't going to do anything to hinder a positive analysis of their product from the FDA. That would be counterproductive to business. Instead BT is already filling out the vape market, in anticipation of the inevitable shift from tobacco cigarettes to vapes in 2023.

This. At risk of being cynical, I'm sure BT already has the appropriate bribes in the appropriate pockets.

Given their penetration of the market, they might want to restrict it to cig-alikes and sealed cartos, but I'm not sure they'd be able to do that. All systems are substantially similar to all other systems, and the court case would be interesting.

I remember reading a press release from Lorillard, who owns Blu, in which they said they were going to push for eGo style kits in the near future. I can't remember for the life of me where I read it though, I'll edit with the link if I find it.

If you can find it, I'd love to read it!

Maybe Blu's realizing the cig-alikes just don't cut it for most people? Or discovering that so many people (like me) may start with a cig-alike, but they lose the business after that as we move on to something larger and more reliable.

Considering their e liquid suppliers, Johnson creek sells their e cig, the Vea, which uses 650 mah batteries, it would be natural for them to eventually sell something other than cigalikes. I think the Vea is about $60 and you get the advantage of a lot of flavors not offered by blu. That being said, I'd guess you could load a Blu with other flavors as well. I know the original Blu could be reloaded, unofficially.
