One of our 2 live oak trees split in half and landed on my roof, car (white) and my Grandson's car (Black). 3 holes in the roof, Shawns car is totaled and they will be assessing mine..so far 4,000 in damages and still they won't total it. Wait until the pry it out from under the tree and see how pancaked the engine is...lol.The last picture is of the other 200 to 300 year old oak just for perpective. My house is behind the downed tree.
We are blessed in the fact that no one was hurt and the damage wasn't worse. But I am hoping the city will get rid of the tree as we had the aborist for the city out this spring because the Oak hadn't leafed out by March...he said it was just fine, even though now you can see the center was rotten.
I hope your day is better

I'm actually in the market for my 1st car. I'm hopefully getting my license soon. That black one looks a lot better than what I've been seeing for sale in my price range. Let me know if you'd be willing to sell it. Very excited to hear back from you!

PS. I'm really sorry to see this. Really very happy to read that no one was hurt. So often that is not the case in these situations. Our house has had trees fall on it a few times. A 4 thousand dollar roof is not fun to pay for. I hope that everything works out insurance wise. If it was a city tree, they should be able to help. And don't forget, if it was on your land, but within 10 feet from the curb, the city may still have to pay for damages themselves. (they legally own rights to your yard 10 feet from the curb of the road in most city/states) SHEESH I would have woken up with wet PJs if that big a tree had crashed into our roof. We have been slowly taking care of the dead trees by our home. I'm worried about this last few, which are leaning toward my mother's bedroom. Gulp. <3333 lots of love + positivity!

Plumes, The rear end is dented to the base of the car..the back window is crushed to powder and I am sure the suspention is gone as the tires are flat! It's a goner I am afraid. Mine is better but it also flatened my front tire and crushed the hood. These trees are massive, I am really luckly that only HALF of the tree fell this morning..the trunk looks like someone chainsawed it in half! Still waiting for the city..hopeful they will get rid of it as it on the power lines. My grandson is going to climb up the limb on the house to put a tarp over the holes..it's still raining here almost every day.
The tree is on the edge of my property in the front yard..hoping it's close enough to have the city help, plus they have all the power, cable and phone lines running all around and next to what is left of the tree.

Stillnotsmoking, a few years back I lived in St. Cloud Fl (near Orlando) we had 4 hurricanes go over us in a 4 month span. We had 23 pines on 2 1/2 acres, but hubby had the 6 nearest the house taken down just before hurricane season. 6 more fell during the storms but none hit the house. So many didn't do that and lost roofs. One did level the old horse stable we use as a giant chicken coop! The mess was incredible. Take down the ones near you, take it from me!
Amraan, My car insurance has paid for a rental, but my grandson can't even get his adjuster out here for 2 days (Taverlers took 2 hours!).
The really bad thing is that this house is over 50 years old and I can't get it insured because of it's age and the fact that I HAD 2 live oaks that are close to it. That's why I am hoping the city helps.
RobinBanks, Thanks, These are both older paid off cars, but new to each of us. I am upset, but my Grandso is devestated, he just had a new transmission , tires, and other stuff done to it for his trip back to college on Friday.

Thank you all for your support! I got a rental car today..it has a burn hole in the seat. But the lady said it was a non smoking car...lol On the bright side as bad as my front end looked we got the limb on ion top of the hood OFF! The darn little Aveo started right up and my son moved it back a bit . My Grandson's insurance told him they wouldn't pay because it wasn't a car wreck and he only has PIP.

Hi Mary,

Robin posted about our situation back on page 1. It was a 13 months ago when our town got hit by a Derecho, it went from raining to trees exploding like bombs in the span of ten seconds. The only time weather has ever made me grab the wife and dogs and run for the basement. When we came out, we saw we had half a dozen trees down, one on our cars (Robin had her Challenger for 4 months, I had my Jeep for 3 months) Tree came down on the brand new central AC condenser we had just had installed a 6 weeks before the storm.

I know the first day we felt like victims or something... like our house had been bombed... we were dazed and out of it. But then we got to work. Cleaned the whole inside of the house from top to bottom, so we'd have something nice to retreat to, then it was time to get going with the chain saws. We just started one section at a time, friends and family pitched in. Got the driveway cleared first.. then the side yard... then the back yard.. took three weeks.. end of July well into August. Most miserable, sweaty work ever. But you know, with each section, cleared... we felt so much better. Slow as it was, progress was awesome.

The cars were too new to be totaled, Robin got a new roof, I got a new front end. They were gone for almost two months but I can legit say they were as good as new when we got them back.

Took 9 months to settle the insurance claims, but we made out extremely well, as in post storm house will be much better than pre-storm house when all is said and done.

Everything is back to normal now... and it will be for you too! If you got any questions for Robin or I, we'll be happy to help. Like we completely bypassed the insurance company and went through a public adjuster. That added months to the time it took us to settle the claim, but when all was said and done we received close to double what the insurance company would have paid us outright. Things like that.

Well I got some good news! Yesterday a friend came out and took the tree off the roof..The damage was contained in a small area except for one small hole. Then today the Dept. of Urban Forrestry came out and determined that the tree was on part of city land (granted it was just a bit) but as we speak they are removing the giant logs and trunk that were just too big for my friend to remove. Then the boss came out and said the standing half of the tree was leaning too much to be left alone and they will take that too! (Since the trunk was branched out into two main trunks..they sort of counter balanced each other..the smaller half is what fell. Now maybe he can get the utilities people to get the darn lines out of the way so they can fell the tree! So far all I got from the Elec company is "If you lose power, call us. Ummm..How? I have a landline! The telephone line is up there too!
I just spoke to the City claims adjuster and she was great! They are going to reimburse me for the roof repair, my car's deductable and possibliy my Grandson's car..at least part of it. I did try to get my Grandson to make his car into an El Camino..he just gave me the "look"..lol
