I stopped in a tobacco store today & asked if they carried e-cigs--of course, no. But the woman behind the counter seemed as though it were her personal mission to warn me about e-cigs. Something she saw on TV, she said. She went on (and on, and on) about how much more addictive (ha ha) the e-cigs are than cigarettes, how they are actually worse than cigarettes because of the chemicals (ha ha).....etc, etc, blah, blah, blah!!!

I didn't really argue because this woman was adamant.
I'm ALREADY addicted to nicotine!
And cigarttes have what now, about TWO HUNDRED CHEMICALS in them? I can remember rumors of ...... being placed into ciagettes!

The woman went on to say "That's why I smoke the all natural cigarettes, no added chemicals...."

Yes, then I suppose you are doing your body a GRAET deal of justice, lady! HA HA! My first e-cig is on the way in the mail. I am planning to use it to quit smoking altogether. The plan is to ween myself down to 0mg cartridges and be done with smoking. Why not? I've tried just about everything else.

So, exactly, what are the neagtive properties of smoking gycolic propylene---or whatever it's called? I know it's found in many cosmetics, but smoking it? Of course, at this point in my 2.5 to 3 pack a day habit, it couldn't be any worse. If I continue to smoke at this rate, I'll have lung cancer in no time.

And what's up with the FDA? Are they gonna make it illegal or something till they take their 10 years to test it out? (then make it prescription only for another 20 years at 3x the cost....)

Thoughts? Opinions?

Try about 4000 toxins and chemicals, 60 of which are known carcinogens (cancer-causing agents)

If you go into the E-cigarette news forum, you'll find several threads regarding the FDA and e-cigarettes, as well as a link to an online petition to keep e-cigs on the market.

Happy vaping!

Light Cigarettes are such a scam. You get all the tar, all the 4000 + chemicals, all the ashes and stink, and - less nicotine. Give me the nic, let the naysayers keep the rest.

American Spirit are supposedly additive free, but you still get lungs full of tar and cancer. It always cracks me up when smokers try a puff of my e-cig and then say "gross!" Grosser than a cigarette!?

My Brother-In-Law was dumb enough to tell me the other night that he preferred the real thing. He said, I won't mess with that (personal vaporizer). I said go ahead with the real thing and all of it's 4,000 chemicals. I think that some people are afraid of something new and different. I'm sure that he went home, googled it and ended up here. He would never tell me that though. He's just an ... like that.

Started off with marlboro and camel, touched some parliaments and kool's --- never really had the taste for those things. Since then, I've been smoking Nat Sherman MCD's for the passed couple of years now. They are "100% additive free" (same idea as American Spirits, but they dont taste like dried herbs) and taste awesome, burns twice as long as a regular cig like a marb or a camel, and give a little more nicotine than your average cig. Unfortunately they've gone from $6.17 to $6.99 to $7.67 to $8.33 with this new tobacco tax.

Just got my Kissbox Classic extended kit and a DSE901 yesterday morning, haven't smoked a Nat since. I love e-cigs.

Woah, If someone told me to stay away from e cigs as they may be WORSE than cigarettes, I would laugh, and then vape in their face.

Like I've said before, Even if they are just as bad as cigarettes, there is still no second hand smoke, and no yellow teeth and NO SMELL

Those three things alone are more than enough to get me to make the switch.

And there is no safer cigarette out there. You smoke cigarettes, prepare for consequences. I can remember all of those people out there smoking American Spirit or Grand Prix cigarettes or whatever, thinking they are healthier? LOLWTF

Some people....

Most of the 4000 chemicals found in a burning cigarette arent added. They are created as the tobacco burns. All natural kills just like the non all natural lol

lol very true. I wonder what the chemical split is from burning tobacco vs burning cig papers. Know what I mean? eg, does pipe smoking have less chems because there is no paper burning with the tobacco? Anyway, I think the whole selling point of additive-free tobacco was something about smokers actually becoming addicted to certain additives as well as the nicotine. (God bless our tobacco companies wanting us to get hooked on their brand.) I don't recall offhand if there were any official studies done. I know it sounds crazy but even smokers can go organic LOL :D

I am with you there!! I think we are all trying to get away from all the crap that the tobacco companies are adding. I am just wanting something that is maybe not so intrusive to others as well. Who knows what is in cigarettes these days? At least we have a smaller list of ingredients that we are inhaling! Better, I don't know?

Great story! I have such a visual of this lol. The only thing missing was her pulling a gun..."You WILL buy an all natural cigarette!" She either didn't understand a thing she heard about e-cigs or was watching some loon on tv.

You've answered your own question about PG. Its not perfect but its far better than analogs and considered GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe). In other words, you'd have to pretty much drink a whole bottle of it to have serious problems.

And what's up with the FDA? Are they gonna make it illegal or something till they take their 10 years to test it out?

The controversies in a nutshell:
1. the nicotine content in the cartridges/e-liquid
2. whether e-cigs should be classified as a smoking cessation aid
3. no FDA testing has been done because mfg's never submitted anything
4. proper custom code for import/export of this product
There will be plenty of legal paperwork if it gets a medical classification like a nic patch, gum, etc. The good news is all of these products are OTC now. Until they figure it all out, there are some peeps that want to just issue an e-cig ban; preventing that is our current battle.

I think most of them are created when ANYTHING burns. Smoke is carcinogenous. Even partially burned food is. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think even a overdone barbecue can be cancer-causing due to what is created when the meat burns.

Right, but if nicotine is not extracted with pharmaceutical procedures and standards, then most of those chemicals will still be in the vapour that we inhale. Nicotine extraction should be done using the same methods that big-pharma does.

There are of course minute levels of chemicals found in tobacco that are present patches, gums, lozenges etc., but our bodies can easily handle those tiny levels. The levels should be the same in the liquid and carts we purchase...which I have a feeling for the most part is not the case. Still, not burning it is much much better for our health than the analog counter-parts.

HA HA!! I appreicate all the responses. I think the woman in the tobacco store is a little off her nut. Personally, I began with the ecig to ween myself from regular cigs. Last Sunday was the first real experience with my 901 & I smoked half as many cigs as usual. Can't say the same while I was at work however.

I think these things are wonderful. I've tried everything else to quit smoking & I feel like I have a real chance with these little suckers. First time in my smoking life I've felt like I may be able to quit. What a concept. The plan is to ween down to low mg, then zero if I can. If I cannot do it, I'll wear a nic patch while smoking zero mg vapor.

I can't wait to be free from cigarettes! Vapor is worse? Oh how a simple comment makes me laugh like never before!
