I lack experience with drippers in terms of variety, so I won't comment on specific models.

However, for what is a good build, honestly, it's hard to beat a basic micro coil.

Several builds may give better flavor or bigger clouds, sure. But for every day, constant use, a micro coil performs well, is easy to clean, and takes little effort to build. On lower power devices I've found that ohm for ohm, a macro coil seems to perform better for me than a micro coil with the exact same ohm rating. However with a higher powered device this difference might disappear. Twisted Kanthal works very well too so long as your device can handle the lower resistances.

Point being that regardless of wire and wicking material, the classic micro coil build, in my opinion is a tried and true coil.

That doesn't stop me from trying all sorts of weird builds, but I don't use any of them for months at a time, while my micro coils have lasted me longer than I can remember.

The nemesis is a great mechanical mod. As is the Stingray X. Both are some of the best performing mods. A SXK Stingray X would be a good investment. As for a dripper a great cloud atty is the Dark Horse, Mutation X or Plumeveil. I own all 3 but I love the dark horse. Right now using twisted 26 gauge micro coils with 7 wraps coming in at .38 ohms. Sitting on my sigelei 100 watt. Another thing to look at would be a high wattage devices such as the Sigelei 100 watt or the IPV3.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here!:)

Just something for you to consider.

With a mech mod the only way to "fine tune" your vape is to build a new coil. With a high vv/vw regulated mod (and its buck/boost circuitry) you can "fine tune" with a push of a button. On a mechanical mod your voltage drops as you vape, with a regulated mod this does not happen. Your first hit is just as good as your last hit.

If you are new to mech mods and rebuildables I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Baditudes Blogs. The blogs regarding mods and rebuildables are listed below:

BATTERIES

9. Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

17. Purple Efest Batteries Not As Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

14. Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

16. Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

MECHANICAL MODS & REBUILDABLES

7. Information Resources for Your First RBA
* An essential read and reference guide for someone new to rebuilding coils. Includes a multitude of useful links on battery safety, mod safety, coil meters, coil building, and the differences in the three types of RBA's.

15. Inexpensive Mechanical Mod and RDA Setup
* A response to the frequently asked question on how to get into rebuildable atomizers with a mechanical mod inexpensively. Includes a list of commonly used tools and supplies for rebuilding and where to find them.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

Loving my Holmes rda. Hair under forty bucks from most places, easy to build on if you're comfy with dual coils, excellent flavor and virtually leak-proof thanks to its airflow setup, and it'll handle high wattages without producing burnt taste or scorching vapor.

So far as a device, it's tempting to start with an inexpensive mod just to get yourself going, but do give some thought to variable voltage/wattage devices. The market's flooded with good ones (and getting more and more crowded by the day), so for a reasonable price you can get something more flexible and inherently safer than a mech.

For huge clouds and decent -- but not the best -- flavor, I would look at the mutation v2 or dark horse. Someone else mentioned the holmes which I also happen to love and is very airy, but not sure it's ideal for this. The dark horse will chuck huge plumes, while the mutation v2 is a little more flexible if you get bored and want to do some single coils.

The super triple twisted fog monster quad coil running at .02 with two Burstpower 18650's (re wrapped) in series. Airflow wide open for optimal heat dispursment with a 2" copper flat strip for the fire button, with magnets of course for safety. 100% VG no flavor we run hard in our hood. Came in second at the McMinville, Tn country fair last year. Only lost cause my trigger finger got sweaty other than that we broke em like the dew on your lillie.

Just got an all copper Manhattan Clone with a Dark Horse rda....this rig is awesome....it's my first mech mod...I also have the Cloupor DNA 30 and T8 but I wanted the full vaping experience so I thought I better get a mech...I don't think the mech will ever break which is one of the reasons I wanted it so as to have a bullet proof backup to my regulated box mods...

You can't go wrong with the Dark Horse or Mutation X v2 also check out the TOBH it hits pretty hard also. Plume Veils are nice but they leak a little...454 Big Block is also a nice rda.

I purchased a Doge RDA Clone from ebay for 18$. A lot with 100 ft of 24g A1 Kanthal wire for 10$. I went to Walgreen and got 100 organic cotton balls for 3 dollars. You can find Cloned Mech Mods on ebay for as low as 25 dollars but make sure that you have the best batteries. I use Sony vtc4 vtc5 and Efest purple 25 amp batteries. As far as coil building is concerned, Youtube is your best friend. Search for "coil building for beginners" or "rdas for beginners." I personally prefer a .2 ohm build with 24g 5-6 wraps. It makes the best vapor production and flavor for me personally.

(edit: Also an ohm reader and set of screwdrivers/drill bits are necessary) Don't forget pliers and nail cutters or wire cutters.

Personally I am just getting into rebuildables as well. I have been doing allot of research online and I would stick with a variable voltage/ wattage device that is capable of at least 60 watts. As far as an rda from what I have read a dark horse sounds like it fits your needs and at a reasonable price. I watch allot of rip trippers builds on YouTube you will find that not only will you want to try some of his but you may be inspired for some of your own. However pick a few builds you want to do before you order your first rda so you know what kinds of wire and wick you will need so you can order it together. Nothing worse than having an rda and nothing to do a build.

Listen to what Susan S said. If you want to jump right in SAFELY get a high wattage regulated mod. Once you understand the dynamics of building you can get into mech mods.

A Mutation X is a great starter dripper because it's easy to build on and affordable.

Best 'bang for the buck' regulated mod I know is the Sigelei 100w. It's affordable, has tremendous battery life and all the power you will need for quite some time.

Good luck and have fun!

So I want a dripper but I'm not completely sure how to build one Or what's good out there I want to upgrade from my itaste svd, I want it to be around like 150$ or lower for the whole thing any suggestions? Oh and I was going to get a Neptune from beyond vape hybrid but I'm not sure maybe there's something better? Thanks!!

1: How to build a dripper the first time:
Wrap a 30 gauge kanthal coil on a 2 to 3 mm diameter rod, about 7 to 10 wraps, and put that on your dripper.

2: "What's good out there I want to upgrade from my itaste svd"
Put the dripper on your svd.

3: $150 ??
For your first ever dripper, think more like $10 maybe $40

4: I wouldn't recommend a hybrid unless you already have other setups already with various toppers and mods that you can swap around as necessary.

And for a first time dripper, easy to setup, especially with fat fingers and blurry eyes, I recommend the magma:
