Hey all,
Long time lurker here but I have been studying the site closely and learning as much as I can about this hobby/lifestyle. My last analog was in July and went through the common progression through vape gear. Started with cig-a-likes, onto egos/clearos, but being the tinkerer that I am, mechanicals and rbas soon followed. Built myself a wooden box bottom feeder, wired in a kick and that was fun. I picked up a VTR soon after they came out and it has been my day to day go to work piece since but have been stuck using protanks and the Iclear30s with it. That is until today.....

Yup, a dremel, cut off wheel, various sanding/polishing drums, about 45 mins in the garage, and now I can rock my Fogger V2's or any other 22mm tank or atty without that ridiculous extension tube. I was a bit worried about what was under the chrome on the top section but it seems to be solid stainless.

I know the cage served a purpose but for me, it's limitations made it worth the risk to remove it. It seemed to me that the size of the cage, spinning 510 connection or using the extender tube have been the biggest complaints that I've read about this device on various forums. So I did away with two at least and it works great. Innokin should redesign this thing for a version 2 without the spinning connection and cage instead of making grenades and gatling guns and I bet they'd have a real winner.

Good job on modifying the mod.
I have been thinking about doing the same thing to my VTR so I can use my Kayfun Lites on it without the extension. What I am worried about is the spinning 510 connector not being strong enough to hold the tanks without the cage.
I have not taken my VTR apart yet to see how the top cap is made. Your photo looks like it is a solid piece. If so, I am thinking about building a stainless steel replacement cage that I can bolt to the top cap to support the tank.
How do you think that would work?? Any ideas??

Yeah the top piece just pulls right off if you remove the four torx screws that secure it. I'm not positive what material it is but it is solid and I'm thinking it may be stainless. The 510 connection is a bit of concern for me as well but I plan on modding that soon. If you remove the bottom battery door housing the spinning connector is visible from underneath. I was thinking of figuring out a way to remov it and plug it with a solid piece of bar stock in which one could fit in a solid 510 connector or better yet drill and tap to make it into a connector. I like your idea of making a larger top cage. Maybe you can figure a way to secure it with the two top screws that are already placed next to the recess. I'm no expert but modifying stuff is fun and new ideas are what keep life interesting.

Thanks for the reply.
I also have a problem with my spinning 510 connector. The threads in mine are giving up for some reason. I have not over tighten the tanks or anything like that. So I have to repair that also. My thinking was to bolt a Smoktech air flow controller to the spinning 510 connector and then use the female 510 connector on the air flow controller for mounting my tanks.

Great idea w/ the airflow controller. I actually have one so maybe I'll throw it into the mix as a thread pprotector for now. The spinning 510 looks like it's probably a cast part. I wonder what material it is.

I am not sure what material it is made of. The two slots that run all the way through it for the air flow adds to the weakness also.
I have one of the air flow controllers on my Evic and I just ordered four more of them. I am going to use them on all my mods except for any that have stainless steel 510 connectors. It is a good way to protect your investment.

The screw on AFC fits and works great. Looks good too. That aught to help protect the threads a bit.image.jpg

Love the Dremel! Use mine all the time.

I don't know how I managed before owning one. Now I have two, and more attachments than I know what to do with!

I've been eyeing the router and drill press attachments lately, too...

(The places I avoid for the health of my wallet - hardware stores, art supply stores, and book stores.)

I know what ya mean BillyWJ. I have the same weakness for tools. I've been keeping my eye on craigslist for a hobby lathe recently.

I just ordered VTR. Can you tell me what this spinning ring thingy is so I can see when mine gets here if it is the fixed version? Thanks so much for any info.

On a side note, I have come to the conclusion this buying a new mod thing never ends does it: ) I have only had my MVP and SVD maybe a week. Love the MVP hate the SVD lol But the VTR caught my eye so I went ahead and ordered it today. Sigh

Very nice job with your dremel btw.

I think I need to add a signature to my posts: Hello, my name is Debbie and I gave up analogs in August 2013. To date I have saved $$$........................NADA....................LOL I sure am having fun though
