I've already got a multimeter, wire cutters, and various sizes of needle- nose pliers.I can appropriate a small torch from hubby's tool shed. My local vape shop owner has offered me some Kanthal wire and cotton wick to practice with. What else do I need?

Also, what do you keep your rebuilding supplies in?

Editing to add: I plan to start by rebuilding my Aerotank heads with single coils and cotton wick in hopes of getting a decent vape out of that darn thing. Then I plan to get a Taifun GS (because it will fit in my beloved VRT) and some kind of dripper.

I also have a magnifying visor (old eyes, lol), an atomizer ohm tester (I actually have a few multimeters at home, but the atomizer ohm tester is convenient for me), tweezers (flat and pointed tip, I've found tweezers to be better for me than needle nose pliers), and a few threaded stands for my atomizers.

In my backpack I have a small-ish zippered bag that holds two rolls of Kanthal, wire cutters, tweezers, a multi-bit mini screwdriver, a coil jig, and a bag of cotton yarn and cotton balls, just in case.

The majority of my other stuff I keep in one of those plastic multi-drawered organizers that sits on a re-purposed printer stand.

Sounds like a good start, honestly. I started out rebuilding heads for my Kanger Protanks, and that got me interested in rebuilding in general. If you can get the hang of re-coiling an Aerotank head, everything else will become second nature.

I have things... some useful, some retired and need to be removed. Basically down to Rene41 and 26 gauge kanthal on the wire. For wick its Koh Gen Do cotton and ReadyXWick xc116. Need to swap out the multi-tool for some stout scissors/cutters. Not shown but usually in there is a Blazer torch lighter for that Rene nonsense wire.

Edit: Things I think are essential are:

screw drivers; ones that fit the screws you are turning well
pliers of some sort or tweezers
ohm checker
torch for the crabby springy wire if you use it. Kanthal I hardly ever torch.
scissors, nail cutter, or some sort of cutting tool for wire and wick materials.

I am using one of those big ego cases to pack my hoard around in :)

Will the resistance meter built into my VTR work? Or do I run the risk of damaging my coil or th e VTR. I know it won't read anything under .08 (I think) Ohms, but I have no desire to sub-ohm at the moment.

I have a mini tool box I keep all my stuff in, really handy and a lot of space. Everything in this picture:
-28g and 32g A-1 Kanthal
-Drill bits (for wrapping coils & drilling air holes) and tweezers in toolbox shelf
-Torch
-Micro screwdriver set (for turning screws and wrapping coils)
-Wire cutters
-Needle nose pliers
-Multi-meter
-Scissors
-Multi-tool
-An earing (I use this for holding the folded end of wire when I twist it)
-Drill (not pictured, for twisting wire & the holes)
-Magnetic parts bowl
-And my personal favorite

I picked this thing up for a few bucks at Walmart. It's a flat ended wire clipper, it makes it so much easier to clip the wire as close to the post as possible.

Sent from the mothership.

Avery - NICE setup :)

Since I'm just getting started rebuilding, I have a spare EVOD base (I'm rebuilding kanger heads only at this time), tweezers, nail clippers, a 1/16 drill bit, some beard trimming scissors (to trim the cotton) and heads sorted in one of those cheapy plastic organizers that has the little dividers. I use my VV3 or my MVP to check ohms (because I'm NOT sub-ohming) I have a couple of spare clearos and drip tips as well as wire. I've futzed with 28g and 32g. Just got some 30g today, and I'm now consistently hitting the resistance I want (yay me!)

Thanks, that's the reason I love harbor freight, 97% of that was purchased there for cheap, lol. I started with the kanger heads as well, once you feel like you got that down, pick up an EHPro Kayfun light +, it's ridiculous how amazing it is. It pretty much put all my kanger tanks out of commission.

Absolutely. You won't hurt your coil or your VTR by testing resistances that way.

The first RBA on my list is the Taifun GS because it will fit in my VTR. From what I understand the internals are the same or similar to the Kaifuns?

Mine is pretty simple really.

AGH Atomizer Stand
KK Vapetek atomizer coil jig, extra sizes in jig rods both metric and SAE.
Ceramic tipped tweezers
Pair of micro needle nose pliers
Etou 10x solder Iron Tips
32 ga to 24 ga Kanthal, various wick materials in different sizes etc as well as organic cotton balls.
Precision screw driver set in metric and SAE.
Ohm Meter as well as metered PV.

I also looking for the Nautilus coil builder tool sold in Great Britain but not in the USA as of yet.
