Alright, I wasn't sure whether to post this in General or Model specific so, I just decided to post it here. Hope I was right.

I've been thinking about getting a box mod for a while since I've satisfied my "cylendar" mod itch. And it's led me very many times to think to myself "what's so great about a box mod anyway?"

I know there are quite a few perks to owning a box mod, such as more battery options, the juice feed options, voltage etc. And all of that realy confuses me and I wouldn't even know whether to get a juice feeder or whether I'd even use a varivolt or not.

So, if any of you own or make box mods, could you tell me why you do?do you still use/prefer it after however long it's been? And why aren't box mods more popular as it is?
Also what is the best quality box mod out there that I could possibly get for a legit price? (willing to spend up to 140-50)

What about the BEST most simple box mod? (minus all of the crazy features) And also the best one with all of the crazy features as well heh.

Thanks in advance for any info, and I apologize if this is in the wrong section (which it probably is)

i'm using home made box mod that i bought from a fella here. Very simple components all from Madvapes.com. Looks pretty much like Ken's 3.7 box mod.

Box Mod

It doesn't get much simpler than this for a 3.7 device. BUT, i think a variable volt mod is the way to go and the Big Brother looks interesting.

Wow, how's it holding up under stress for you? Have you had any problems with it breaking or anything? Any common issues/annoyances?

i dropped one yesterday and it needs to be re-soldered at one connection (easy fix). He also used cyanoacrylate glue (aka super glue) that doesn't hold well; an epoxy based glue like JB Weld is the way to go. Anyhow, the other box, which is identical, is working fine. No complaints for $15 bucks a pop.

Same box but epoxied: 2xAA Box Mod

Doesn't look pretty but this would hold up much better. i'll be making a few shortly.
Yes, it's really about the fun! And, you make yourself a better PV than the eGo or the like.

I've got a little sister. She's a beauty. Variable voltage of course allows you that sweet spot experience and you can get the best our of your juice. I dig the smaller boxes. the Big Brother looks like its probably the epitome of the 2AA box variety to date. But the Ls is a lot of fun in a tiny slick package.

The little sister is a box mod?! I had no idea! Now I know why everyone raves about it. I always thought it was just another cyllinder mod (sp on cyllendar blah)

Plus and minuses on the box mod, though way in the plus column.

The one minus is if you really heat up a penstyle atty (the rugged BE112 for me), the serial vaping can soften something as tough as a JB weld temporarily. It is after all connecting metal to plastic. No permanent damage though once you (I) come back to my senses and ease off a bit and let the atty cool down. If the epoxy has separated enough for daylight to show, it's easy enough to reapply a bit of the JB.

The huge plus is it's very easy to replace a switch due to maneuverable space. Even the excellent madvapes hornstyle 5A button can die and need replacement. Minimal soldering skill is required though.

while technically not a "Box Mod" the thing is the size of a bic and squareish not roundish. But its the same type of mod. If you havent checked these out you really should.

A word of warning. If you have no soldering skills (like me) it is impossible to build one yourself. I can't tell you the money I wasted on box mod parts to find out I couldn't get one built.

Actually, That's not entirely true. If you keep it very simple, you can build an extremely effective and durable box mod by twisting wires together

not impossible at all, as mentioned b4 u can twist wires together.

Also, soldering isn't that hard if u'r using the right gauge solder. (i've noticed .032"dia. works well) the only other thing to it is to make sure u'r contacts are heated enough as well - i've found that connectors are the worst for heating up, those generally take awhile it seems but most other contact points heat up easily. when they don't, that's what flux is for.

perhaps u know someone who works w/ electronics that could show u hands on? it seems to me the hardest part is trying to hold everything just right w/ only 2 hands (and there are tools that supposedly help w/ that too)

Actually it was epoxy (cheap Harbor Freight brand) cant stand super glue JB Weld is nice I used it on my 5V mod but doesn't dry clear like epoxy I probably went a bit thin on it either way :p

I did once get a box that the whole right side of the switch was filled with hot glue heh.

I have 7 box mods and 3 more on the way. LOL Do I need to say how much I love them? I've had them made with special buttons that are easy to use when my hands hurt. I have a variable on order, 5v, 3.7v, juice fed, 901, 510, 801 and one that uses eGo attys (on order). Luckily I have a modder friend that I trade my DIY eLiquid with and can have anything I can imagine. :)
