This thread's getting some age, so I don't know if you're still looking for answers. But if you are...

Get a 510 battery connector like this one: 510 Battery Connector, Gold, Large Hole. Clamp the connector in a vise (not too tight or you'll crush it) and screw your atty into it. Now you need a dowel that will just fit into the atty tube. Insert the dowel and wiggle it back and forth while pulling up on the atty tube. It'll come out like a loose tooth every time - never fails.
