What's the importance of oxidizing the wire before vaping?

It takes a little springiness out of the wire and burns off any machine oil residue that may be on there. If you can wrap good coils without doing it - then you can just pulse the coil a few times as long as you are not using something like a cotton wick to oxidise it like that.

The main problem with not oxidising it and using it straight away is it tastes disgusting and metallic for a few hits.

For me it just makes it easier to wrap coils if I oxidize/burn it...wire is more pliable. I do not notice any other difference.

Same here. Sometimes I do it and sometimes I don't, and the wire seems to be a bit easier to wrap if I do. But it's a quick, very light burn, not at all the same as oxidizing an SS mesh.

A quick burn of the wire help to anneal it and make it more workable when making your coil. When the coil is made I usually give it a full 4 +burns (holding my fire button on my Provari until it times out) to get rid of anything that can give a bad taste. I even drop a little juice of my bare coil (no wick) to help clean/ vaporize!!

torching the wire does eliminate some springiness and does make it a little easier to wrap because it does make it more pliable. this is especially noticeable if its heated a bunch of times, eventually the wire starts to feel more like lead and if its wrapped at this point it may not expand or contract after the coil is built. this may not be as important with ss mesh but with a ceramic wick being and staying as tight as possible to the wick is a must, so by expanding & contracting the wire before coiling helps it to stay in better contact after coiling.
