The essential for me is having a backstop at start end. I use a small metal jewelers ~1/16 flathead screwdriver. Handle is easier for me to hold, with old hands, than drill bit, and all my coiling stuff fits into a small case. Another that is easiest for me is 30 ga wire. I can pull it pretty tight winding and get coils snugged without needing to do the heat and squeeze to set after coil is mounted. Being experienced with "old hands," with some arthritis and sensation loss, I can say with confidence that some peeps won't have enough fine motor control to do the heat and squeeze that Stat makes look so easy. Not saying heat and squeeze in not optimal but not required with 30 ga wire.
For me 32 ga is just too fragile and much more difficult to thread into post holes. In addition the coils are much easier to deform handling and the thin wire is much more likely to break cranking down the post screws. In addition the coil gets fragile with repeated dryburns. I've never had a well used 30 ga snap at the post, especially after repeated dryburns, but certainly have with 32 ga.
I would advise that unless you want sub ohm coils best to stick with 30 ga Kanthal or equivalent.
