What's wrong with this build

This is my second build, it's on a plume veil (on fuhattan clone mod). Used 24 gauge 7-8 wraps around a 1/8" screwdriver. I was just looking for a basic build to do, and I read somewhere online this would work. It barely works...it heats up slow, produces very little vapor, has no flavor, and it's harsh. Looked alright when I fired the coils with no cotton. I know 1/8" has to be too big to wrap coils around, but they dont touch anything. What's wrong with these coils?

24 gauge does have more ramp up time. make sure your airflow is directly in front of the coil. On my plume I prefer 28 ga 5/64 id 0.3 ohms

Yea the airflow holes are right in front of the coils. How many wraps do you do with 28g? What will more wraps versus less wraps do?

I left the wraps out purposely. With a calculator like Steam Engine | free vaping calculators you will find the answers you need. Make sure you check the ohms on a meter before fireing.

1/8" is fine to wrap on, but as stated before that's going to take forever to ramp up. Right now I have a 0.3 build on my tugboat that's kicking pretty good, but it's on a hexohm so it's regulated. Instant power. On a mech I did like dual 24g kanthal on a 1/8" bit. Came out to about 0.2 I think. Just be sure your battery can handle it. And personally I think the plume veil is a little underwhelming for flavor anyway.

If the cotton is packed too tight either through the coil or underneath (I can't tell) that could lead to some nasty dry hits.

Make sure your screws are tightened down directly on the wire. If the wire catches to the sides of the screws you can lose conductivity. Also, the screws can mash through the wire causing the same issue.
