The best one is the one that works for you, period.

As there's a lot to choose from on the market.

So the best things to consider is what you really need from one, for example if you're kind of clumsy and occasionally drop things by accident a ruggedised mod is a definite consideration.

Interested in what everyone has owned/tried. Trying to get more info before I make any decisions on what I should get and wanted to see everyone's opinions!

What kind of mod are you currently using?

What kind of tank (drop-in coils) or RBA do you use?

What kind of vaper are you? Low wattage MTL, restricted DL or high wattage DL?
Your power requirement matters.

From the many setups you've seen on ECF, which ones do you like?

Do you want a mod with an internal or external battery?
I prefer and recommend mods that use external batteries.

A single 18650 or 21700 mod?

Dual battery mod?

Do you squonk? If not are you interested in squonking?

Basically, we need more info. :)

I have a very large stash of favorite mods, a list of my favorites would be quite long.

"Just get a Provari."

That's a joke. A very old one too.

Like everyone else, I have many "faves". I guess on top of my list right now is the Union 3.0 from RusMods (in Russia). Ask me in six months though, and my answer might be different.

If you find something you really like, run with it.

I have 4 mods that use an external battery, and one with an internal battery. My favorite one is the one that's charged or has a good battery in it. So sometimes I have multiple favorites.. ;)

How about a SBS (side-by-side) mod?

    full.jpg

That's an Ennequadro Flexy SBS. It's 70mm tall, so very compact. Uses an 18650 battery.

DP mentioned the RusMods Union which is also a SBS mod.

How much money are you looking to spend?

Oh I miss my Picos.. One I broke, the other was stolen. The tank that was on it I didn't like enough to miss. Between the battery & the mod & the drip tip though, I was quite perturbed.

18650 battery too. VW & TC, but I didn't use it's temp. control mode, so I can't comment on it. The first one was won in a contest here so it was very, cost effective, positively. I don't remember how much I paid for the other one, but it was less than $50.

Have you considered your options for things that you can get from your location? A lot of the US vape shops have been shut down because they just couldn't compete within the regulatory :-x system for B&M shops and/or shipping. Some of the non-US places stopped exporting to the US because of the :rules:

I'm one of the old-timers that started prepping for the end times, so my gear is pre-2018 and I'm hoping the stash will outlive me. If you haven't stocked your own supply of nic base, you might want to consider that as well.

I'm pretty strongly into the Provari camp, but liked the little Pico 75 as well. If you want to try a Provari or any of the older mods, you might check out the classifieds here on ECF. I would try to limit my choices to mods that can take the flat top batteries that are still fairly easy to get. The old Provari 2.5 tube mods require button top batteries that aren't as easy to find, and the preferred AW brand went out of business many years ago.

Big fan of BOTH, and have the stockpiles to prove it.

If I were buying today, I'd probably be focusing mainly on Innokin stuff (personal preference). I REALLY like the Coolfire Z80s and they seem to be holding up quite well too.

The most reliable mods that I've owned to date were a matched pair of Eleaf iPower 5000mah 80W TC - Gray

Did a Co-Op for these many years ago.

These two mods were so comfortable to hold and use that I genuinely didn't want to use anything else. When new, each one of these ran for 4 days like clockwork, eventually dying to half a day or less on it's last leg.

I ran two of these back-to-back for almost 5 YEARS non-stop, sweet spot for me was 15.5 watts using 1.8ohm and occasionally 1.6ohm heads. I never used any of the temp control features cuz I've always been an MTL vaper.

Retired (dead) 1 of 2 after 4+ years and the 2nd one (now 6 or 7 years old) still holds a charge and vapes but is also retired a couple years ago.

Joyetech/Eleaf sure knows how to build high quality 5000mah Lipo packs.

Being so overwhelmingly impressed with the quality of these two mods and their longevity, I bought a pair of their predecessors, the Eleaf iPower 2 5000mah 80W - Black.

The build quality on these improved dramatically, but the weight and bulkiness made them somewhat uncomfortable to hold. The much heavier aluminum-zinc alloy and the blocky, almost boxy-shape made them much less comfortable to hold as well. While the performance is excellent, if I had the choice I would go back to the earlier version for comfort in the hand.

I never did get used to holding this model and only used 1 of 2 for a very short period of time, maybe 20 cycles. They're now being stored at 3.6V and I'll probably put them up in the classies sometime soon.

The mod I'm using at the moment is also a long-term favorite for it's ease of use and comfort.

The Eleaf iStick 60W TC - Black and had a pair of these as well, but one of them died unexpectedly for unknown cause. I'm using the 2nd one as I type.

This is a very lightweight and durable single 18650 mod. The solid aluminum frame and battery cover(s) are a bit of a pain to remove (inconvenient) and the slickness of the anodized aluminum body and panels made these prone to slip out of the hand, but a very simple upgrade using genuine 3M Di-NOC carbon fiber in Black CA-421 on just the two removable battery panels made this mod exceptionally comfortable to use and very grippy.

Sweet spot on this mod is 15.7W using a 1.6ohm head. This mod can also be used as a passthrough (battery installed) on my laptop, so it makes it even more useful when I have a craptastic battery that needs replacing.

But with all of the mods that I've owned and used over the years, there was one that was very special to me in the early years.

    #1 hand-making Cisco's Laser mod.

Damn that was a HUGE pita, but once finished it gave me a massive boost of satisfaction. This is back in the earliest days of modding where the DSE 901 and the Joye 510 were the two lone attys that were to eventually decide which way vaping would move into the future. The obvious winner was the Joye 510 (why virtually every mod has a 510 connector) and the rest is history.

Cisco openly published the very detailed an easy-to-follow instructions (which I downloaded and still have today) on how to build this 10440 battery mod. Won't find it on the net anymore though, it disappeared from the net long ago.

Grimm Green made a video back in 2010 showcasing Cisco's modded invention using a 901 connector. It was this mod that I also made before Grimm's video (I made in 2008/9 if I remember right) and everything Grimm points out about it was absolutely true.

I loved this thing! But I was crushed when it died though and due to it's design of how it was built, it could not be repaired (fire button failed, cheap crap). Once the mod was built there was no disassembling it. It was a one-time major headache to build (drilling the 901 adapter hole in solid brass). The wiring was a breeze though and the mod worked flawlessly with both a 901 and a 510 attys with an adapter. The 510 atty being the obvious choice since the flavor and vapor was just so much better.

And for anybody that might be wondering, I quit smoking for good using the original Joyetech 510 set, but started on the 2007/8 model of the DSE 901 ... which btw set me back almost $100 for 2 stick batteries (350mah/ea) 2 901 attys and a box of crap-quality gross-tasting carts. For any newcomers that don't know what the oldest vets started on, this was in the days BEFORE the fire button existed and LONG before variable voltage. It's so old that I can't even find a picture of the set anymore, but here's a picture of the 3.6V DSE 901 that I used.

And that's my very brief story, hope you all enjoyed it ...

My favorite setup is a Vaporesso Gen with an OG dead rabbit. That gen mod has taken quite a licking, yet still works. I have about 6-8 more of them but the first one has lasted forever. It is lightweight for a dual battery mod. The only thing I don't like about it, they fixed in the Gen 200, which is the tiny screen.

My absolute favorite mod is my Super-T ELA. In my opinion, the best telescopic mech mod ever made. Wish I had another, but couldn't afford it at the time. This is the single mod I will take to my grave if Vapeocalypse comes to the US.

The next favorites in my heart are my three Dicodes. I've been using my Dani Extreme v3 near daily for 5 full years and it keeps trucking. I've been using my Dani 25 for nearly as long and it's a great at home companion. I don't baby them either. Those two have taken countless falls on tile, concrete, and asphalt, but they refuse to quit. The newest member is the Dani SBS 18650 in silver.

My current favorite beater is my Cthulhu AIO in black. Small, light, low-key.

@Shekinahsgroom, I remember following your Co-Ops, though I opted out of the 91%s and didn't join the others. Takes me way back. Hope you're doing well!

I vividly remember the very first Co-Op that I hosted here, started as a nuclear bomb thread (massive explosion of interest) when I discovered the manufacturer of Volcano's prized $200 mod.

The coveted V1 Lavatube made by L-Rider - $20 (I still have one untouched and sealed)

God lord was that a massive multiple round Co-Op!

The Pico 75's are very nice tough little mods. Bought a couple for my wife and myself when they were released. We were very impressed, so we bought several for the vapocalypse stash.

My wife could have been a real life tester for Eleaf, as she was always dropping hers. She dropped them in the snow, the mud, on gravel, hard floors and got hers wet with the hose while gardening. They continued functioning.

Our German Shepherd would knock them off tables with her constantly wagging tail. The cats knocked them over.

They just keep going. My original Pico is still going strong. I installed Arctic Fox on them because AF does temp control about as nicely as my DNA and Dicodes mods.

I also purchased some Pico replacement boards and screens from Fasttech. Haven't had to use any of those yet because none of the Pico's have failed. IIRC they came out in late 2015 or early 2016. Pretty darn good for mods that are 7-8 years old.
