So i pushed the button on a vamo V7 (40w) and a Subtank Mini today. I did a little research and found that the AW IMR batteries that i already have would work to sub ohm at 0.8.

Does an AW IMR 2000 mah battery have the amps to power sub ohm vaping ?, or will i have to get some thing more powerful ?, and if so how many amps do i need ?

The relevant number is the 40 watts.
You want a battery capable of delivering the 40 watts.

For your AW IMR 2000 mah battery, there should be an amp rating printed on it.

If it's a 20 amp CDR battery, that works out to 3 volts x 20 amps = 60 watts.

For any "high wattage regulated" device, you want at minumum 12 amps continuous discharge rate. The old AW IMR 2000mah battery is only 10 amps continuous.

The "new" AW 18650 IMR is 2200mah and 20 amps continuous. A much better battery for your application. There are several 20 amp batteries on the market, including the Samsung25R and LG18650HE2.

I chose to get a couple of Sony VTC4 2100mah 30 amp batteries. Better safe than sorry right !. Did i make the right choice ?. Is a 30 amp limit more than enough for this setup or have i completely misunderstood the whole thing ?. They are safe chemistry unprotected batteries aren't they ?.
Good choice for now, and correct on all accounts. Word is that these excellent batteries will no longer be available in the future.

Final word on Sony's production plans for the US18650 VTC4 and the US18650 VTC5 (April 9, 2015)

The Subtank Mini that the OP bought does indeed include a rebuildable head that is very similar to the build deck of a Kayfun. You just pop out the OCC head and screw in the RBA section. That's how I use mine for temp control and it works great. You can also get (and there is one included in the package for the Subtanks) a 1.2 Ohm head that will work great for devices that aren't capable of firing a .5 Ohm coil.

I fired up the 1.2 coil today. Doesn't work on my Provari 2.5. Works on my Vamo v4 and my Tesla. Definitely need more watts though, definitely !. Should be getting a Vamo V7 early next week, that's a 40 watt device. So until then the subtank is on the backburner.

Pretty airy though the Subtank. I found that only lung draws work with it. Anyone here agree or disagree with that ?. Maybe when i start using more watts this might change, i don't know !.

Is the Subtank rebuildable or is that the one that uses the .5 coils? That Vamo won't fire below .8 just FYI. I use both LG HE2s and the 25rs in mine, they're fine ampwise..

I have read in various places that the Vamo V7 can go as low as 0.5. Initially when buying the device it did say 0.8 though. Shouldn't be a problem building 0.8 or above.

As it is i've got a load of 30 gauge kanthal wire sitting around i use for a Protank ii, is this any good for the subtank or should it be thinner, say 26 ?.

I bought these ages ago from the chemist. Oval pads, 100% cotton wool. A bit thinner that the Organic cotton but basically the same product. I figure i should just cut them a little wider to make up for the difference in thickness.

Not sure why these pictures have been removed. Hardly worth trying to find out either. Just pictures of cotton pads !.

26 gauge is thicker than 30 gauge. Wire gauges run the opposite from what you'd think.

From thinner to thicker: 32, 30, 28, 26, 24. You'll get gain more resistance (ohms) the thicker the wire, too.

different factories in china produce different flavors of something and call it a vamo.

somebody mentioned recently their vamo doesn't seem to measure coil ohms without firing the coil (the usual right button holddown) which is one of the good features of my vamos.

I've never owned a Vamo, but I've read here on the forum that several manufacturers in China make a "Vamo" mod. They don't all follow the same inner schematics, but they all look like a Vamo.

I've seen a few different ones on Ebay and Amazon. V8, V9 all with different features. Some have the P3 feature which allows the digital screen to change colour.
Anyone familiar with the Vamo Babel ?. I've posted a thread asking if anyone knows about the minimum ohm's on it. Some vendors say it's 0.8 and others say it's 0.2. I want to get one from one of the vendors that says it's 0.2 but i'm really not sure having read different specs elsewhere.

Hmm, the Provari should have fired the 1.2 Ohm without issues. You maybe had the voltage up too high? 4.1V is as high as you can fire that coil on Provari before it pops an error on you, MAYBE 4.2V, but that's pushing it right to the edge of its power limitation of 14.5W (I believe 1.2 Ohms it will fire at 14.7W, and be right at it's current limit of 3.5A). You really do need more power than a Provari 2.5 can offer though with these Subtanks, so you may not have liked it anyway, even with the 1.2 Ohm coil.

The smallest air hole in the Subtank Mini I think lends itself decently to mouth to lung hits, but yeah everything else is pretty much lung hits only.

Unless it's recently come out, there is no real Vamo v8 or higher. V7 is KSDs current model. Anything above that is a mystery knock off.
