When to taper down nic?

I'm in week 3 of not smoking or dipping and I've had little to no problems with nicotine urges. I'm vaping surprisingly often though, on various Johnson Creek 24mg e liquids. At times, it gets slightly sickening, and i step away for 20 min or so, but most of the time it's fine.

So my question is:
Is it possible to maintain a high nic level 24mg, and just vape less often? Or is it better to lower the nic level and just continue vaping all the time.
And also is there a natural tendency to eventually stop vaping all together? It seems I've read several instances where people go to 0 nic, or stop entirely.

Side notes:
I'm using a vivi-nova (waiting on a kayfun clone in the mail) on an itaste mvp (which is awesome).
The taste to me is very bland through the vivi nova, with just a hint of plastic, or burning silica perhaps? I think it's the nature of the thing. I'm hoping the kayfun will taste better

The kayfun is great! What clone did you get? I have the ehpro and it works great. I would suggest getting some organic cotton and use it for your wick, it works really well. Good luck! Congrats on quitting!

As with nic, I dropped down from 18 to 12 to 6 pretty quickly. I had no problems doing it, thinking about doing down lower but have been at 6 for about 6 months now.

Just as many people continue to vape nic eliquid at 18, 24, 30 or 36mg levels for years. Since nicotine is not a carcinogenic substance, you should do whatever works for you in staying clear of analogs and as long as you don't have some side effects that are concerning. It appears that many of those who reduce their nic levels find it important to brag about it, as if it is a contest and even look down on those who don't. It's not a contest. Staying clear of analogs is the only true goal, IMO.

I use 24, but some vendors I use only offer 18. Flavor is good enough to make me not care..even though I vape quite a bit more with them. I only really use drippers and vacuum tank rbas like the kayfun, some carto tanks thrown in, but I'm not vaping all day long. I still chain vape, but not nearly like some. Just do what works for you. I've been vaping 24 for almost a year now.

Well said !!

I've gone from 24 to 10 this year, but only because the nic irritated my throat a bit, and when it does that long enough, I would drop my nic (and vape more). I wouold also adjust my PG down because of this.

My 30 year old daughter who has been vaping much longer than I still Vapes at 24 Nic.......Were all a bit different I think.

What ever keeps you off the Cigs is what I say also.

Use TWO tanks, one with 24mg and the other with a lower nic.
Use the lower nic, and only occasionally use the 24mg if you need it.

Soon you'd be down to 12.

I started out vaping using 36mg and now am using 18mg, after 3 1/2 years, no intention of going to 0 nic. When I had tried to quit using gum and patches, both taper off the nic to 0, as soon as the nic lessened I was back to smoking, I've learned from my mistakes.

Most of my tapering off I believe is due to having better equipment, (batteries and toppers) and being more experienced in how to properly draw a good vape.

For me, once your vape gear gets better, one gets more nic delivered into there system. Once I started rba's, I had to drop my nic level down to 18 mg, or I'd be dazed and confused for an hour. Then once my builds got better and I started to vape at 15 watts and higher, I had to drop down to 12 mg nic. I enjoy my vape and wanted to vape my fill without getting over nic'd, I dropped it down.

If you are happy with just a few vapes then setting it down, well then that will work, but, if you enjoy your vape but getting to much nic, then drop it down. I enjoy my vape, once you get you kayfun you will most likely have to drop your nic, once you get it dialed in, since the flavor and nic delivery will be magnitudes greater than the gear you are using now. The taste will be so much better you won't want to stop, and with 24 mg nic, you'll be getting blurry vision, stagger when you walk, and have to lay down after vaping 24 nic through it. Least that's what happened to me after I got the Russian rba.

Thanks for all the advice. It's amazing to me how much information I've gathered in the last couple weeks. So I'm hearing: better gear = more vapor and better taste = more enjoyment = not wanting to decrease vaping = the necessity to lower nic to avoid dizziness and possibly sore throat. I was hoping to hear that people just magically went to zero for some unknown reason, but oh well I'm just happy not smoking.

Let your body tell you when to drop nic levels. I wouldn't worry about it, as getting off analogs is a major success in it's self. I bought both 24 & 18 mg when I started, using 24mg primarily. I mixed 24 & 18 together, to get around 20-21 mg nic strength and it worked pretty good for me. Eventually moving down to 18mg after a couple months. That said, my fiance has vaped longer than I have and still vapes at 24mg. The transition is different for everyone, and there's no right or wrong way or time for anyone. Good luck and don't rush it. I think we all find a level were comfortable at, reguardless of what it is.

Hi proga,

i started vaping to quit cigarettes and knowing that he nicotine was the main ingredient keeping me "in the habit".
started at 24mg and on my third week, stepped down to 18mg.
this past week, just started to use 12mg on my gotovape.

it would be nice to be not addicted to nicotine. though not sure if i will ever stop vaping to at least get my nicotine fix.
i vape more during a step down.
And feel cranky more i think.
but it does level out.
And i still have a little bit of 24mg lying around if i ever want a really strong hit.

im currently just using only cigalikes.

Sometimes I think people tend to make it more complicated than it needs to be..... when I was a smoker I never felt I should ask someone if I was smoking too much (throat a little sore, headachy) or not smoking enough (feeling a little edgy) ..... I just adjusted, subconsciously...... never once tried to calculate my nic usage while smoking.

It was a couple of things for me, one I really enjoy the flavor and I wanted to vape more so I dropped from 24 to 18. At that point I got into RBA's and I needed to drop the nic at night because I was having problems falling asleep. It didn't bug me to vape at the lower level (didn't miss the nic) so now I vape at 4-6mg all day. Right now I have no plans on dropping it any lower.

I quit cigarettes in October on 18mg, cut to 15, cut to 11 and then cut to 3mg last week. I switched to 18/15 when I moved from ego-T /CE4 to MVP/PT-mini (i.e. VW ) as I was getting substantially stronger vapes. Found myself chain-vaping (and thus getting too much nic), so cut to 11. Then started feeling poorly and switched to 3. And, now that I'm here, I'm going to stay.

Easy, peasy. Step down when you no longer feel the need but keep both higher and lower nic levels on hand (if you need to step back up for a tank or two). Don't force or brutalize yourself but make sure to keep the next lowest on hand and use it as your default.

You're already miles ahead of when you were a smoker.

Two years ago I started with 24mg and now I am at 9mg. The same as others said though, as soon as I got my first mod (a provari) and then my first RBA I felt I could not stand even 18mg nicotine and started reducing gradually since I was feeling nausea with too much nic or headaches.

Right now I am using 5 genesis atomizers (only) but I am waiting on 4-5 clones of the new breed (Kayfuns, Ithaka, Fogger, etc) in order to test out cotton and really low ohm coils that will make me lower nic even more I guess. I have tested sub ohm coils with my Nemesis clone on a genesis and it is indeed hitting harder.

Nonetheless, don't stress yourself over nicotine levels. Just keep on vaping till you forget all about cigarettes which is going to happen!

I just learned this firsthand. I finally got a kayfun going. maxed out my itaste mvp, and couldn't see straight for a few min. So I'm vaping it less frequently but the taste is faaarrr superior to the vivi-nova.
