So the last time I had a cold was October. It's now the beginning of March and I'm due another one but where the heck is it?! Every year, twice a year I become a veritable mucus monster. Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory has nothing on me when I'm sick!

Very, very occasionally, I sneeze. I might even blow my nose! Last week I had a sore throat, difficulty swallowing and what I thought might be swollen glands but now, NOTHING!

The only difference between this and every other year is that I'm not smoking! Could I have found the cure for the common cold?!

Has anyone else found that they're not getting colds as often?

(Also, I realise by writing this that I'm tempting fate. That is kind of the point. I want it over with so I can get on with my life until October!)

While I no longer have the major sinus issues I would get, I can't say that I haven't caught a cold. In fact, I'm just getting over one of the worse ones I have had in years and now the wife (who also vapes) has now caught it as well. I would hate to know how bad I would have felt if I was still smoking though...

If you have PG in your juices, that could be a possible reason - PG is anti-bacterial by nature. You may also notice that your breath is fresher (other than from "ashtray-mouth") for the same reason.... Inhaling the vapor & blowing it through your nose actually kills a lot of the little buggers in your system.....one of the other benefits of vaping :)

I never talk about it much because, you know, cure for the common cold? Get real. But I haven't had a real cold for over three years. Check my join date. I've had a very few little 'starts' of colds, that sniffly feeling, but they're gone in an hour or so. And even that's extremely rare. I used to have colds, bronchitis, all that stuff, all the time.
It's because PG is antibacterial of course - I chain-vape and it's always around in the air. Not one medical ill-effect, much improved lungs and the usual, I sort of expected that, but no more colds? Ridiculous. Try explaining THAT one to the stupid FDA. Try getting anyone to believe it. :) :)

OK, so maybe I haven't cured the common cold just yet... but I can dream! I actually have a plan to cure the common cold but it involves everyone wearing bubble suits...I don't think I could get 7bn people to wear bubble suits for a month...

I'm hopeful about not getting a cold though! It would be amazing if I didn't! The first time in YEARS!

Colds and flus are caused by viruses though, not by bacteria so would PG still work? When the flu pandemics happened and they were trying to get everyone to use antibac handgel, I thought it was hysterical as antibac and antiviral are two different things. Curiouser and curiouser...x

They use PG in the air filtration systems in Hospitals to cut down on cross-contamination between patients, as well as in the antiseptic "fog" used in some surgeries...so yeah, I guess that kind of proves that it has a few benefits (other than vaping :D )

Good topic and oh so relevant to me as well. When I started vaping a month ago I had a really bad sinus infection. Bad enough to make me go to the doctor and get antibiotics. Went through those and no effect. About a week after being off the cigs tho, it miraculously went away. Have been breathing easier ever since.

During my first 6 months of vaping, I took a very bad cold. Even so, I continued vaping, but while I was recovering, THAT's when it began to feel as though the nic level was too high (24mg). I cut it 18mg, but over the next month, I lowered nic levels to about 12mg before I finally felt 'comfy' again. I'm now at 6mg and doing extremely fine. I've even gone to 0 nic for a couple of weeks, but depression rears its ugly head when the nic goes too low. So, 6mg is where I'm settled. I DIY my eliquid and use a 50/50 mix PG/VG. No colds or flu since the one mentioned above...and I used to get colds AND flu EVERY YEAR. :)

I tend to sneeze more than in previous years, but that's about it. :D

I'm on my 2nd sinus inf in 6 weeks. 1 while still smoking. Now this one after quitting almost a month ago. I got a z-pak about 3 days ago but it doesn't seem to have much effect as of yet. My freaking head is killing me & now I'm wondering could I be reacting also to anything in the juices?

I started vaping in October 2010 and have not had a cold since. As a smoker I had one or two serious colds per year. I vape only 100% VG juices, so PG can't take the credit. Stay well! If you hold your breath until October, you won't be able to vape :p

I don't know about curing the common cold, but a virus has been going around where I live, Mrs. Katz works at a hospital and sometimes brings diseases from there home to me. She got very ill, was out sick for three days (and she only takes off work if she is really really ill) so she was pretty bad off and is just now getting over it.

Now I should have had whatever she had, but I didn't get much more than a sore throat (and not even a very severe one at that). Normally I should have taken whatever she had and been severely ill too, and the only difference is I'm vaping instead of smoking.

I will say though that this year my environmental allergies (pine and oak pollen) have been worse than ever, I think thats due to being able to actually breathe for a change.

I read another thread somewhere that smoking masks allergy symptoms. Without smoking, my allergies have been much more potent. I think it also has to do with the sinuses working better. In the spring, there are a couple of weeks when the tree pollen gets me as well.

I'll have to search the forum for that thread then. That may indeed be interesting.
