Some cisco LR 306 attys come with too much bridge mesh. I had the same experience. When I looked at the bridge mesh on one of them I noticed that it was covering the side holes where the juice gets in to saturate the coil/wick. Take a tweezers and gently peel some of the mesh back so the holes on the side of the bridge are opened up.

For the record, all cisco LR 306 attys should have a white rubber ring on the bottom of the thread connector and say "cisco". There was a vendor that was selling LR 306 attys with a black ring that did not say cisco and to the best of my knowledge and from what I've heard, those are/were NOT ciscos... That being said, the vendor was not create vapor.

avidvaper.com is now the only place stocking cisco lr 306s. some other vendors may have old stock of legitimate cisco's, but when they run out, they are out. av is cisco's site, and he is no longer selling them wholesale.

i know that at least one earlier batch of genuine cisco's did not have "cisco" imprinted on them. i can't recall if they had no imprint, or maybe it just said "LR" or "1.5" or something. not sure exactly, although I do know that I read a post made by Cisco himself, stating that some of the earlier ones were not stamped the same.

as far as the burnt taste, it could also be that you didn't prime it enough before using it the first time. cisco lr 306's come PRIMER-LESS, unlike most attys. so, it takes even more liquid to prime it than would be necessary for an atty from which you blew out the primer. A new one needs a good 6 drops, wait a minute, and add 2 more.
Also, i've found that during their first day or two of use, the cisco 306s are juice monsters, and really need to be kept constantly wet to avoid a burn taste. After they are broken in, i find them to be much more forgiving.

Lastly, because of the exposed bridge, it is very easy to remove the wick from these. When nothing else gets rid of the burnt flavor, just pull out the wick. You may experience a slight decrease in performance and/or an increase in leaking (though, for some reason the only 306 i've de-wicked actually leaked less for some reason after de-wicking), but it should get rid of the nasty taste.

ok. I appreciate your help. I am going to order some 306's from there right now. And as far as the pulling off the wick. i already did. And now it tastes fine. But for some reason, the voice in the back of my head is telling me to go get another one. Because if it burns out when im not home. im screwed.

i hear ya. after pulling the wick on a 306 of mine, i also felt compelled to order some new ones, even though it was working fine and i had some unused lr 510s sitting around.

benjayman is completely correct. anything i've ordered from cisco has shipped promptly, and the customer service has been great. the one time that there was a mistake, it was fixed right away. it was minor too. one of the atties i received was a 901, instead of a 510. the correct one was sent out the day after (maybe even the same day) I contacted cisco, and not once did he rush me to send back the old atty. I mailed it back, and he gave me a generous store credit to (more than) cover my shipping costs.

great attys from a stand-up guy.
