I had a bunch of lousy teachers through the course of my rag-tag education, and a couple of good ones. One of the great ones was Professor Krukofsky (name butchered?, sorry) at Fordham University. He started an early lecture off with a discourse about history, and interpreting what people say and write about things and events in the world by making the strong point that every history is HIS STORY, the point being that to make real sense of a person's subjective words, it is essential to understand Who they are, Where they are, When they are speaking and Why they are telling the history.

For example, might be important to know that GE owns NBC when watching a newscast regarding impropriety of GE's behavior. Less obvious, and perhaps more significant, it would also be important to know if Acme Rockets was a large consumer of GE electronic components when watching NBC coverage of the heated law suite between the Road Runner and Acme Rockets.

I recently had a posting deleted. The deleted posting was in my mind a factual information-add. The supplier, in this case a provider of Merchant Account services, had told me on the phone that due to changes in recent weeks with Visa and Mastercard's policy he could not help potential suppliers obtain merchant accounts unless their volume exceeded 100k per year, and that this scenario was industry wide, not specific to his particular business. If sincere and factual, I call that genuine news of interest to a significant population of ECF members and lurkers. One can not help but wonder in whose interest the post was deleted.

Whatever the case, it is important to know Who's viewpoint the information in that thread represents - specifically and deliberately not mine, as my voice was removed in that small and insignificant instance.

So who cares about that? Well it seems like a very large segment of the threads on the site are offering opinions, criticism and advice on commercial products. I know I have gleaned an awfully lot of valuable opinion and information here on my journey to vape-land. In that context, Krokofsky echos in my mind. And I ask the question Where does the Buzz meet the Biz?

There's a lot of varied tastes and opinions - seemingly irreconcilable. As an example, my dad loved liver and onions. I believe to a near certainty that he wasn't a shill for the liver industry, but still find it hard to believe someone likes the taste of that stuff. So thank goodness there's a place for the voice of everyone, and hopefully we each find the voices of those like us to guide us.

I owe a debt of gratitude to ECF for the wealth of information, entertainment, advice and general enjoyment I have received from their web site. And they are a business. I do not begrudge them their practices, whatever they may be, and enjoy their service immensely. I am interested however in what those practices are, simply so I can more effectively utilize one of the great fringe benefits of ECF which is a defacto consumer's guide.

Groups tend to march in lock-step (please don't get a vision of the Dead Poet's Society right now). I expect a lot of abuse for this posting. Hope I don't get banned. I'm very interested in the thoughts of members and admins alike. Yay free speech.
